Kathryn Ward Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Baxter Funeral & Cremation Service on Feb. 6, 2026.
Kathryn (Kate) Pearce Barrus Ward, age 78, of East Leroy, Michigan, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2026, with her children by her side, after a long battle with breast cancer.

She was born on February 7, 1947, to Charles Pearce and Dorothy (Moody) Pearce.

Kate retired from Kellogg's after 25 years of dedicated service. She loved staying active and involved in her church, and she found great joy in teaching Sunday school to children, sharing her faith, and helping them learn about the Lord.

At home, Kate cherished the simple pleasures of life. She delighted in playing games and cards with her family, attending performances at The Barn Theater, and expressing her creativity through drawing and decorating sugar cookies. She especially treasured the time she spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, watching them grow, laughing together, and creating memories that would last a lifetime.

Kate is survived by her children; David (Kim) Barrus of Port Charlotte, Florida, Keith Barrus of Waterboro, South Carolina, and Heather (Tommy) Knapper of East Leroy, Michigan. She is also survived by her 9 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and her sister, Dotty (Ron) Dilsaver.

She was preceded in death by her parents; Charles and Dorothy Pearce, her brothers; Chuck Pearce, and William "Bud" Pearce, and her sister, Carrolin Behrends.

In accordance with her wishes, there will be no services.
