Ronald Ward Obituary

Ronald E. "Fritz" Ward

Ronald E. Ward, 88, passed on March 10, 2026, following a long life of embracing every adventure, enthusiastically sharing his knowledge with others, and dedicating his all to those he loved. Known as "Ron" to many, "Fritz" to most, and "Papa Fritz" to his much-adored great-grandsons, his easy laugh and spirited determination were his gifts to the world.

Born in Toledo to Marie and Sam Ward on April 29, 1937, Fritz was a lifelong resident of the area: his love of outdoors fueled by growing up along the river, his passion for trapshooting a natural extension of his competitive drive. Initially setting sights on commercial art, he dropped school to pursue what truly caught his eye-and heart: Carole, his wife of 60+ years. Fritz took enormous pride in the life they created together both as parents and as partners in developing the family construction equipment business. His love of art stayed with him always, whether hand-lettering trucks for the business, building snow sculptures with his children, or drawing cartoons to brighten the day. Everything Fritz did, he did with an artist's unerring eye, commitment to the outcome, and desire to share his vision.

Fritz was preceded in death by his wife, Carole; his parents; and his sister, Shirley Branyan. He is survived by his son, Tim (Roxanne) Ward; daughter, Susan (Scott) Mayberry; grandson, Micah (Jess) Ward; great-grandsons, August and Wesley; as well as grandsons, Ben and Timothy Mayberry; and twin brother, Toby (Sherron) Ward.

In celebration of Fritz, the family suggests contributions to Northwest Ohio Hospice or the Toledo Humane Society. To share a memory with the family please visit:
