Kathy "Sunshine" Bendig

Kathy "Sunshine" Bendig, 66, left the world peacefully on Saturday, May 10th at 4:20 pm surrounded by family at her home in Philadelphia. Her incredible legacy continues on with the love of her life, her husband of 45 years, John, "Benji" Bendig; her daughter Patrice; her son-in-law Dan; her dog Penny, her sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws Suzanne (Dan), Albert (Michaelina), Christopher (Carol); her nieces and nephew Ashley, Ryan, Jae, Jessica, Cait, Janeen, Kelly Ann and Coleen; and her great niece Taylor Marie. She is now reunited with her father, Harry Drake Sr, her mother Kay Drake, her brother Peter, her brother Harry and her dog Lucy. Kathy grew up in the Parkwood section of Northeast Philadelphia, where she attended St. Anselm and Archbishop Ryan High School. She resided at her house on Greendale Road for 45 years, where she made many memories decorating the house for holidays, floating in her pool reading the latest James Patterson book, and working in her garden. She worked at St. Luke's Daycare for many years as both an Assistant Teacher and then Cook. She will always be remembered for her video game skills, her constant cup filled with iced tea, one-liners, her love for Bruce Springsteen and her knack of always sending people home with stuff. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her life celebration at John F. Givnish Funeral Home 10975 Academy Rd, Philadelphia, PA 19154, on Friday May 16, 2025 from 10:00 am to 11:30 am for a memorial visitation and from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm for her memorial service. Kathleen was cremated, so there will just be fun photos and videos celebrating her life. Following her memorial service, there will be a luncheon (details will be provided at the service). To honor Kathy, it is requested that guests wear colorful, and comfortable clothing.
