Kathryn L. "Kathy" Kubec, age 79 of Two Rivers, passed away peacefully Wednesday morning, January 4, 2023 at the Aurora Medical Center in Two Rivers.
Kathy was born in Chicago, IL on January 8, 1943. She graduated from Mishicot High School with the class of 1961, then furthered her education to earn her certified nursing assistant certificate. Kathy worked as a CNA for many years at the Hamilton Memorial Home and the Two Rivers Community Hospital. On June 17, 1961, she married Donald J. Kubec at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Mishicot. He preceded her in death April 24, 2017. Kathy was a faithful member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Two Rivers. She was devoted to her very strong faith, which she always instilled in her children.
Kathy and Don enjoyed many years traveling together; they enjoyed live music, dancing, and camping. Kathy loved to take walks along the beach, biking, and bowling. She was an exceptionally good dartball player, and as a member of several area teams won many dartball tournaments. She was an avid Wisconsin Sports Fan, mainly enjoying the Brewers and Bucks. Above all, she treasured the time spent with her family. She often recalled the days of babysitting her granddaughters, and was delighted any time she could see her grandchildren. She will be greatly missed.
Survivors include her three children: Laurie (Scott) Mertens of Manitowoc, Steven Kubec (fiance, Brandee) of Two Rivers, and Lisa Behnke of Manitowoc; three granddaughters, Arielle, Bianca, and Caitlin (significant other, Matthew Mazur); two step-granddaughters, Bryanna (Max) Ashenbrener, Lexie Mertens (fiance, Ryan Richter); two step-great grandchildren, Paisley and Brecken; and a very special friend, Jerry Bauer. She is further survived by one sister, Susie Eckardt of Algoma; brother & sister-in-law, Charles (Sally) Eckardt of Francis Creek; half sister, Sheila Fonseca of Indiana; two sisters-in-law, Jean (Richard) Lambert of DePere, and Gail Kubec of Kewaunee; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Helen (Kramer) Eckardt; her birth mother, Elsie Gorenz; adoptive father, Dr. John Schmitt; her husband, Donald Kubec; two half sisters: Sylvia and Sandy; her father-in-law & mother-in-law, Stanley and Bessie Kubec; and a brother-in-law, Stan Kubec.
Private family services were held on Saturday, Jan. 7th at Our Savior Evangelical Lutheran Church, Two Rivers, with burial in Forest View Cemetery, Two Rivers.

I met a beautiful and fun woman on the dance floor and her name was Kathy! She was a friendly, funny and kind person who was quick to smile or add a witty comment! I feel lucky to have known her.
I think I can speak for everybody on the dance floors in the Lakeshore area when I say, we will truly miss Kathy. May she rest in peace.
