Kathy Lahmon Obituary

Kathy Sue Lahmon

July 29, 1950 - February 27, 2026

Kathy Sue Lahmon, 75, of Tipton, Iowa, died on February 27, 2026, in Iowa City following a brief illness.

Kathy was born in Monticello, Iowa, on July 29, 1950, to Evelyn and Darrell Blayney. Tipton was her home from a very young age and she remained rooted there throughout her life. She shared 58 years of marriage with Richard Lahmon, a relationship that began in high school when Rich picked her up in a red 1957 Chevy. Kathy never forgave him for trading that car for a Volkswagen Bug.

Family defined Kathy's life. She was a devoted mother to Jennifer, Melony, and Will, and a loving grandmother to Brooke, Breyden, Anna, Lilly, Riya, and Dylan. She warmly embraced her in-laws, Chad (Jennifer) and Bhavna (Will).

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Melony; her sister, Karen Blayney (Lang); and her brother, Keith Blayney.

She is survived by her half-brother, Jerry (Luann) Hora.

Kathy loved conversation. Her greatest joy came around the dinner table, morning coffee in hand, talking with family and friends. She remembered small details about those she knew, with a remarkable ability to begin a story, patiently pause when interrupted, then pick right back up without missing a beat. She cherished family trips to Disney World (especially Mickey waffles), cooking family meals, and preserving family stories and traditions. She is perhaps best known for her remarkable sewing talents. Kathy and Rich operated the Tipton Fabric Store for many years. She also worked as a medical receptionist and coder for several years in the area.

A private celebration of Kathy's life will be held at a future date.
