M. Kathleen “Kathy” Mazzoni (nee Dunn) of Kansas City, MO, passed away on October 15, 2025. Kathy was born in Carlinville, IL, on August 22, 1923. She attended grade and high school in Carlinville. Kathy followed her older sister, “Sis” to St. Louis, MO, where she attended the St. Louis Business College and got a secretarial position at Ralston Purina. One of her coworkers arranged a blind date with a guy that worked with the coworker’s husband at Kroger. She ended up marrying that guy, August J. Mazzoni, on January 23, 1954. She called him Gus. They were married for over 60 years. During that time she and Gus raised two boys, helped raise five grandchildren and she probably baked 10,000 batches of chocolate chip cookies.
All services will be held on Thursday, November 6, 2025, at St. Thomas More Church, 11822 Holmes Rd, Kansas City, MO. Visitation will begin at 10am, with Mass of Christian Burial following at 11am. There will be an inurnment at Resurrection Cemetery in St. Louis, MO, at a later date.
Kathy is preceded in death by her parents, John and Bertha (Ulmer) Dunn; her husband, Gus Mazzoni; sister, Louise Bergen; and brother Robert Dunn. She is survived by: sons Mark Mazzoni (Deborah) and David Mazzoni (Michelle); grandchildren Vincent Mazzoni (Suzie), Michael Mazzoni, Stephen Mazzoni (Emily), Nicholas Mazzoni (Josie), and Natalia Mazzoni; her great grandsons August Mazzoni and Arthur Mazzoni. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to: The Madison Senior Living, 14001 Madison Avenue, Kansas City, MO 64145, make check payable to Nancy Bartlett with “Christmas Fund/Kathy Mazzoni” designated on the check memo line.
