Kathy Ocker Obituary

Ocker - Kathy L., of Riverhead, formerly East Norwich, passed away peacefully on January 5, 2026, at the age of 75. She was predeceased by her parents, Keneth Neely and Evelyn Huff. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Kevin, of 51 years; daughter Kimberly Ann Vargus

(Christopher), Kristopher Edmund Ocker (Lauren), and grandchildren, Gretchen, Nora, Emmett and Evelyn, brother, Ken Neely; sisters, April

Erickson and Gail Mayo; brother-in-law Glenn Ocker (Karen); Jean Vogeley (Rev. Charley). As a faithful servant she taught the love of Jesus to Lutheran school students at Nassau Lutheran School, Mineola and Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and School, Plainview, for 40 years, often leading her children in song and ending each day with a smile. Her passions included singing, time at the beach and with family, and a strict routine of walking each day, her answer to beating her multiple sclerosis and staying positive. Her life will be celebrated with a service to be held on February 28th, at 11 a.m., at Saint Peter's Lutheran Church, Main Road, Greenport, N.Y. Donations can be sent in her honor to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and School, Plainview, or the Lustgarten Pancreatic Cancer Research Foundation in Uniondale, N.Y.

Kathy and I graduated together in 1969 from Luther High School South in Chicago. We reconnected in the last few years when she found out about my website for downsized church workers, Crown of Compassion. She always responded with a hug to the daily blogs I sent her. She was a blessing to the website and to me personally. I will truly miss her support and encouragement!
