Kathryn May Scadden, daughter of Olin Everett Westlake and Ruth (Conley) Westlake, was born on May 25, 1940, in Creston, IA., and was educated at Creston schools.
While on his 30-day military leave, Kathy was united in marriage to Merlin Jack Scadden on April 13, 1957, in Creston, at their minister's home. They were later blessed with four children. After returning to Creston, Kathy worked at Newcomb's Drug Store in Creston, was the secretary to the Green Valley park ranger, and worked at Casey's Sandwich Factory, where she later retired from. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading, getting her hair done weekly, spending time with her grandchildren, and she made good fried chicken and mashed potatoes.
She is survived by her three children, Jack (Catherine) Scadden of Urbandale, Kevin Scadden of Creston, and Brenda Scadden Baird (Tom) of Creston; son in-law, Jack Rettig of Ft. Lauderdale; grandchildren, Evin Scadden (Ann Hinton) of Creston, Kaytlynn (Cory) Bennett of Lenox, Quinton Scadden of Creston, Dustin (Sam) Baird of Creston, Tara Kendrick of West Des Moines, and Lauren (Rachel) Rettig of New Orleans; great-grandchildren, Beckett and Oaklynn Bennett, Ryder and Reid Baird, Carter and Collin Kendrick, Robin Rettig-Lee, and Alibi and Chasin Luther; 3 sisters-in-law, Martha Adams of Stanberry, Mo., Marge Miller of Des Moines and Nadine Scadden of Creston; her cat companion Honey Jr; and many other special family and friends.
