Walter Foley Scadden, 80, beloved husband of Nancy (Mader) Scadden, died peacefully at St. Francis Hospital on Sunday, August 3, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born September 29, 1944, in Hartford, he was the son of Walter H. and Kathryn (Foley) Scadden.

After serving in the U.S. Marines as a parachute rigger, he returned to his Irish heritage and Connecticut roots to work as a firefighter for the Town of Manchester. Walter trained as a stonecutter at the Art Development Program for Youth at the Wadsworth Atheneum in Hartford, CT, and opened up a blacksmith shop. Many of his iron work pieces can be found around Manchester, including the street signs on Main Street. He also was a race car driver and author of many books and stories.

He leaves behind his wife Nancy, son Michael Scadden, daughter Laurie Scadden, sister Susan (Scadden) Labrie, and nieces Noelle Labrie, Renae Labrie and Jessica (Labrie) Forrester.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, August 11th, 2025, from 4-7 p.m. at the John F. Tierney Funeral Home, 219 W. Center Street in Manchester. A memorial service will be held immediately following at 7:00 p.m.

Please accept my sincerest condolences for your loss. Walt was so much more than just a coworker. I do miss working with him, I miss our trips to breakfast, I miss his sense of humor and his amazing talent to tell a story. While I miss him, I will always be proud to call him my friend.
