Kathy Lynn Smith, age 67, of Smithtown, passed away peacefully on September 22, 2025. We are comforted by the promise of salvation through Jesus Christ, knowing that Kathy has completed her journey and is now home with the Lord. A lifelong force of nature, Kathy will be remembered for her infectious spirit, deep love for her community and unwavering passion foe University of Kentucky sports.

From a young age, Kathy refused to let her disabilities define her, instead she picked up a ball and never put it down. Up and down the road to Smithtown Elementary School playground she went. Dribbling, catching, or dragging a bat. She taught everyone around her that true strength is not found in winning, but in perseverance and the love of the game.

For three decades, Kathy, was a constant smiling face at Smithtown Elementary School. She volunteered and I am sure never missed a day. Smithtown was her family and watching the children grow up in later years was her true joy. She made her lifelong friends there and carried away some of her best memories.

Kathy was born July 20, 1958 in Somerset, Kentucky, to the late Eldon Sidney Smith and Velma Jean (Griffis) Smith.

Preceding her in death were her parents; grandparents; Kay and Blondell Smith and Bud and Melvina Griffis; aunts; Evelyn “Tootie”, Mazel, and Mae, uncle; Kelly; and cousins; Nick, Paula, and infant, David.

Survivors include her cousins; Cheryl Ann Reynolds, Randy Stephens, Wayne Strunk, Resa Jackson, Jamey Strunk, Scarlett Stephens, special friends; Donna Waters, Sandy Hamlin, and Pat Strunk; and several other family and friends who mourn her passing.

Funeral Services will be held 3pm Friday, September 26, 2025 at the McCreary County Funeral Home with Bro. Eddie King officiating. Burial will follow in the Angel Cemetery. The family will receive friends after 1pm Friday at the Funeral Home.
