Kathryn June Franzoy, 85, went to be with the Lord on Thursday January 15, 2026. Kathy was born in Burgettstown, Pennsylvania on November 23, 1940 to Marguerite Virginia and Edelo Bernola and was raised in Hatch, NM. She graduated from HVHS in 1958 and attended NMSU.
She met Charlie Franzoy during that time and married in 1965. They had two beloved daughters, Tina Cabrales and Katherine Lucero and one beautiful granddaughter, Madalyn.
Kathy was so smart, funny, and creative. She loved sports and excelled in horseshoes and volleyball. She loved to read and had so many talents. She quilted, painted, sewed, acted, taught, and sang. She had a beautiful voice that had to be heard. She led her church’s music for many years. She was indeed a pillar of the church. Her kindness, compassion, and quiet strength touched everyone she met, and she had a special way of making people feel seen, loved, and welcomed. Kathy lived her faith daily through service, encouragement, and unwavering love for her family and community.
She is survived by her two daughters, granddaughter, two sisters, Peggy Kennedy and Gayle Martinez, two step-grandsons, Joe and Price Franzoy, many nieces and nephews, friends, and family. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Charlie, her brother Terry Bernola, two nephews, Josh Irwin and Justin Martinez, and her stepson Charles.
A service in honor of Kathy will be held Saturday January 24th at 10:30am at the Salem Baptist Church. A dinner will follow to celebrate her life.
She is singing with the Angels now!
