Cherryville – Mrs. Katie Lackey Dellinger, 81, passed away on Tuesday, December 16, 2025 at Catawba Valley Medical Center in Hickory.
Katie was born on November 6, 1944 in Lincoln County, NC a daughter of the late William Beverly Lackey and Ethel Palmer Lackey. She retired from Hi-Tex in Kings Mountain. Katie was a member of Bess Chapel Methodist Church in Cherryville where she was involved in the Methodist Women and the Golden Disciples Travel Club and was a former Sunday school teacher for the young people. She was a member and current Worthy Matron of Fallston Chapter #282 Order of the Eastern Star and was also a member of Cherryville Chapter #156 Order of the Eastern Star. Katie was appointed by the Grand Chapter of North Carolina Order of the Eastern Star to serve as Grand Representative of Massachusetts.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter Sandra "Sandy" Dellinger; a brother, Glenn Lackey and three sisters, Patsy Lackey, Bobbie Tallent and Jean Gantt.
Survivors include her husband of 55 years, John W. Dellinger of the home; nephews, Mark Eaker (Mary Ellen) and Will Tallent (Rieanne); nieces, Anita Bridges (Carl); Cindy Powell (Mark); Juana Scribner (Randy) and Holly Kiser (Jimmy). Also surviving are numerous great nieces, great nephews and many Eastern Star sisters and brothers.
The family will receive friends from 5:30PM to 7:00PM on Friday, December 19, 2025 at Stamey-Cherryville Funeral Home and at other times the family will be at the home.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM on Saturday, December 20, 2025 at Bess Chapel Methodist Church with the Rev. Stan Nantz officiating.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Eastern Star rites.
In lieu memorials may be made to Bess Chapel Methodist Church, General Fund, C/O Linda Towery, 2357 Bess Chapel Church Road, Cherryville, NC 28021.
