Katie Pruitt McDaniel, 84, passed away at the Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson on Feb. 11. She was born on Oct. 20, 1936, to Lora and Abe Pruitt in Claudville, VA. Katie graduated from Blue Ridge High School and attended Draughon's Business College in Winston-Salem. Katie grew up on her family's farm which instilled in her a strong work ethic and a love for gardening. She worked for over 25 years at Davis Department Store as a sales clerk. Mrs. McDaniel was a longtime member of Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church, getting married to her late husband William E. McDaniel in 1957 in the church. She was a faithful caregiver for many years to her husband, and was devoted to her daughters and grandchildren. She lived each day with joy and her faith in Christ was uncomplicated and pure. Mrs. McDaniel was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years William E. McDaniel, sisters Betty Smith and Catherine Marshall, and brother Bobby Pruitt. She is survived by her two daughters Lisa (Greg) McElveen of Durham and Donna (Thomas) Nolfa of Alpharetta, GA; five grandchildren: Carie (Benjamin) Kempton, Scott (Ellen) McElveen, Nathan McElveen, Eric Nolfa, Luke Nolfa, and two great-grandchildren; Gideon McElveen and Abigail McElveen; one sister Jewell (Richard) Boyles, of Claudville, VA; dear family members Sylvia (Harold) Gritton and Jean Clifton; and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 19, at Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church with a brief graveside committal to follow. COVID safety measures will be followed, so attendees should wear masks. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church, 3543 Robinhood Road, Winston-Salem, NC, 27106.
