Katie Stricklen Morton, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 11, 2025, in Memphis, Tennessee, at the age of 86. Born on May 4, 1939, in Iuka, Mississippi, Katie brought joy and warmth to those who were fortunate enough to know her.
Katie devoted a significant part of her life to her career at Aramark before retiring, cherishing the years spent serving and connecting with others. Her memory will forever be linked with her achievements, her deep commitment to her work, and the relationships she cultivated through her career.
She graduated from Holcut High School, class of '57, and held dear the lifelong friendships formed during those formative years. The bonds created in her youth were a source of joy for Katie, as she and her classmates continued to meet regularly, honoring the love and camaraderie that had enriched their lives.
In her role as a mother, Katie was a guiding light for her children, Celena Smith (Michael) and Tim Morton (Magi). She embraced her role as grandmother with great pride and joy. Katie leaves behind a beautiful legacy through her grandchildren: Abby Morton, Jessica Payne (Eric), Ian Smith, and Connor Smith (Megan). Additionally, she is survived by four cherished great-grandchildren, who brought immense happiness to her later years.
Katie's interests were as colorful as her personality. She and her husband, James Morton, who preceded her in death, were cherished members of the Bluff City Sams RV Club. Together, they traveled, explored the world, and made countless fond memories. Katie also had a passion for painting, expressing her creativity in beautiful and meaningful ways.
Her parents, Thomas Whit and Carrie Stricklen, also predeceased her, but their influence continued to shape the woman she became.
Cutshall Funeral Home in Iuka, MS is entrusted with the arrangements. Friends and family are invited to celebrate Katie’s life during the visitation on August 16, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by her funeral service at 11:00 AM, officiated by Bro. Bobby Johnson, both held at Cutshall Funeral Home in Iuka, Mississippi. Burial will follow in New Lebanon Cemetery.
Katie Stricklen Morton will be remembered fondly for her kind spirit, vibrant energy, and the unconditional love she offered to everyone around her. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of those she touched, as they continue to share stories of her life and the joy she brought into the world. Donations may be made in Katie's honor to Ronald McDonald House.
