It is with deep sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of our dear mother, Katie Lou Porterfield, on Friday, September 19, 2025 at the age of 89.
A celebration of Katie’s life will be held on Wednesday, September 24, at 2:00 PM at Wilkerson Funeral Home with Rev. Ralph Clayton officiating. Burial will immediately follow the service at Reidlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, from 1:00–2:00 PM. At other times, friends may visit the family at the home, 1761 Wolf Island Road, Reidsville, NC 27320.
Katie was born on February 23, 1936, to the late Lula and Dallas Collins in Rockingham County, where she lived all of her life. She grew up with a deep appreciation for the simple joys in life and carried that love into everything she did. She worked in textiles for a time but found her true passion as a caregiver, dedicating much of her life to caring for others.
Katie loved fishing and could spend hours by the water with her loved ones. She found joy in cooking for her family, tending her garden, working through puzzle books, and being outdoors. She was happiest when sharing a good meal, enjoying the sunshine, or sitting quietly with those she loved.
She is now reunited in heaven with her parents; her husband, Curtis Porterfield; her daughter, Rose Porterfield; her grandsons, Curtis McAlister and Jason Porterfield; and her siblings, Georgia Martin and Bobby Collins.
She is survived by her children, Joseph Porterfield of Reidsville; Danny Porterfield (Claudia) of Reidsville; Wesley Porterfield of the home; Tammy Porterfield of Reidsville; and Kenneth Porterfield (Cindy) of Eden. She also leaves behind twelve precious grandchildren, as well as numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
“Like the river that flows and the garden that grows, Your care and kindness still bloom and still glow. Though we must part, we’ll meet once more, By peaceful waters, on Heaven’s shore.”
