Katlyn R. Obi

Katlyn R. (Gildner) Obi, 34 years old, passed away on Monday, June 24, 2024 at St. Joseph Hospital in Phoenix, AZ. She passed after a short but fierce battle with melanoma. Katlyn was born on July 15, 1989 in Southfield, MI but lived and went to school in Mishawaka. She attended Ballstate where she received a bachelor's degree in Communications. She had lived in Arizona for the past eight years after having moved there to work at ABC 15 news station. There she met the love of her life, Michael Obi, and on November 11, 2023 at the base of the Superstition Mountain, AZ, Katlyn and Michael J. Obi were united in marriage.
Along with Michael, her loving husband, Katlyn is survived by her parents, Mark and Julie Gildner of South Bend. She is also survived by her brother, Kyle Gildner of Mishawaka and her grandmother, Ruth "Nana" Hurst also of Mishawaka.
Katlyn was formerly employed in the news industry for over ten years. In 2020 she began nursing courses and eventually became an LPN and within the last year became a Registered Nurse. She loved her job and co workers. She was fearless, adventurous and full of life. She loved her husband, friends and family fiercely.
Friends may visit with the family on Sunday, July 28, 2024 at the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan Street, South Bend. The times for visitation will be from 1:00-3:00 p.m. There will be time for sharing of memories throughout.
