Kay Adelaide Harrison, 81, of St. James, Missouri, passed away peacefully at the Stonebridge Nursing Center in Owensville, Missouri, on Tuesday, February 11, 2025.
Kay was born in St. Louis, Missouri, on November 4, 1943, to the late Theodore Valentine and Estelle Elizabeth (Hassett) Balling.
She was also proceeded in death by her late husband, James F Agnew Sr, son James F Agnew Jr., her sisters Dorothy, Marie, Theola and brother Donald.
Kay's early life was full of struggles, but she overcame many obstacles to become the strong, kind, giving and stubborn woman she was.
She moved to St. James, Missouri, and began caring for children in her home. For over 30 years, she devoted herself to babysitting, allowing her to stay at home. Her (kids) knew her as Kay Kay. As the kids grew up they remained close as a family would be and had a strong love and bond.
In addition to being a supportive mother, Kay enjoyed basking in the sun, loved plants, and was especially fond of cats. Watching and feeding hummingbirds brought her great joy. Her generosity and kindness were well known to those around her.
Kay is survived by her children, Christine Crandell and husband Robert, of St. Charles, MO, Scott Agnew and wife Martha, of Dothan, AL, and Cyndi Salter and husband Mike, of St. James, MO; grandchildren, Stefanie Callahan (Ryan) Daniel Hill (Katie), Courtney Crandell (Andy Hine), Allison Agnew, Dylan Salter (Katlyn Branstetter), and Hanna Salter; brother, Dale Balling, sister, Mildred Strasser, and great grandchildren, Colin Callahan, Mallory Callahan and Ainslee Agnew and host of extended family and friends who will miss her deeply.
A memorial service to celebrate Kay's life will be held at a future date.
Kay's memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew her.
