Kay Leonard Phelps

Kay Leonard Phelps, 82, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, March 28, 2026 at Hartford Hospital after a brief illness. Kay was born on April 19,1943 in Malone, NY to the late Karl and Valdah Phelps. After two years serving in the US Army, he and his wife, Jeanne Louise Phelps, made a loving home with their family in Windsor Locks, CT. Kay is survived by Jeanne, his wife of 59 years, as well as their three daughters: Laura Phelps and her fiancé Steve Riffenburg, Michele Phelps and her husband Christopher Orszak, and Heather Castiglia and her husband Robert Castiglia. He is also survived by his six grandchildren: Ryan Wilson and his fiancé Carley Hoynoski, Adam Wilson, Connor Orszak, Samuel Castiglia, Elliana Castiglia, and Alexander Castiglia. Kay leaves behind four sisters, Fayma Graham, Linda Moselsky, Susan Phelps and Debora Flint, his sister-in-law and brother-in-law Fran and Chet Marecki, and many nieces, nephews, godchildren and friends. He was predeceased by an infant son, sister April Landry and brother-in-law John Landry, brother-in-law Donald Moselsky, nephew Joseph Graham, and sister-in-law Priscilla Renaud. Kay loved working with his hands and built, repaired, or refinished numerous items that will be cherished by his family. He was also known for his skill in the kitchen and provided all of the pies for every holiday. Relatives and friends may gather for visitation on Thursday, April 2, 2026 from 9 -10:30 am at Windsor Locks Funeral Home, 441 Spring Street, Windsor Locks, followed by a service at St. Robert Bellarmine Church at 11:00 am. Military Honors and burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Kay's name to a charity of your choice.
