Kay Sorrell

87, of Eaton, went to be with the Lord, Sunday, March 22, 2026.

She was born October 12, 1938 in Camden to the late Mark B. and Martha E. (Ramsey) Keller.

In addition to her parents, Kay was preceded in death by her high school sweet-heart and husband of 66 years, Robert “Bob” Sorrell; siblings, Helen Christman, Gordon Keller, and Joyce Keller; and sisters-in-law, Linda Sorrell and Margie Keller.

Kay is survived by her daughter, Penny (Mark) Morton; son, Clint (Jill) Sorrell; grandchildren, Kyle (Denise) Morton, Clay (Brigitte) Morton, Mollie (Nick) Benge, Mandy (Steve) Apking, and Jacob (Chelsea) Sorrell; 13 great grandchildren; brothers-in-law, Riley Sorrell and Dean Christman; and numerous nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

Kay attended Camden High School, where she formed the foundation of the lifelong friendships she cherished so deeply. She carried that same friendly spirit into her professional life, working for Dr. Jack Bridge and attorney Will Mawer, where she was known for her dedication and welcoming personality. Later, she became a familiar and beloved presence as the co-manager of the snack bar at Lake Lakengren for over 20 years with her sister, Helen, serving not just food, but smiles and conversation to everyone who stopped by. In more recent years, Kay enjoyed helping at the family business, Eaton Hometowne Furniture, where her warmth made every customer feel like family.

Kay truly never met a stranger. She had a gift for conversation and found joy in simply spending time with others, whether catching up with friends, shopping (often taking her time to make just the right choice, even if it meant two hours picking out shampoo), or laughing her way through a game of Euchre with her card club.

She loved to dance, especially line dancing, and found happiness in life’s simple pleasures, sunbathing at the beach, trying her luck at the casino, or getting lost in a good mystery novel by V.C. Andrews.

Above all, Kay’s greatest joy was her family. As the wife of a farmer, she embraced a life rooted in love, hard work, and togetherness. She could often be found cheering from the sidelines at her grandchildren’s sporting events or in the kitchen preparing their favorite meals, fried eggs, magic cookie bars, and deviled eggs, especially during the holidays she so lovingly hosted. Her home was a place of comfort, laughter, and full plates.

Kay’s faith was an important part of her life. She attended Camden UMC and was a member of Oak Street Brethren Church. She lived her faith quietly but powerfully, always showing kindness, compassion, and grace. True to her Christian spirit, Kay never spoke a bad word about anyone and treated all people with respect and love.

A visitation will be held Thursday, March 26 from 11AM to 1PM at BALES FUNERAL HOME, Camden, with the funeral service starting at 1PM with Pastor Bryon Gevedon officiating. Kay will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband, Bob, at Somerville Cemetery.
