Kay Willis, 86, of Pine Knoll Shores, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at Carteret Health care on Monday, February 3, 2025.

A celebration of Kay’s life will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, February 8th at Munden Funeral Home, officiated by Rev. Patrick Whaley. Interment will follow at Gethsemane Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Kay was born on July 28, 1938, in Oneonta, New York, to the late Herman and Agnes Wells. She initially pursued her passion for learning by obtaining her bachelor's degree, which led her to inspire numerous students during her teaching career. After several years in the education field, she transitioned to a successful career in real estate, where she flourished for 40 years. Always one to stay busy, she worked all throughout her golden years.

A woman of deep faith, Kay loved the Lord and attended several local churches throughout her life. Her little home in Pine Knoll Shores was her personal sanctuary which she regarded as her little piece of heaven. Kay was also proud to be a member of the Willis Family, who played a significant role in founding the Squatters Restaurant and Campground in Salter Path.

An avid cook, with a fondness for seafood, Kay often delighted family and friends with her delicious creations. Cooking wasn’t just a hobby for her, it was a way to bring people together, and she cherished every shared meal and laughter.

Above all, Kay was a devoted mother and a proud grandmother, whose love knew no bounds. She leaves behind not just memories, but a legacy of kindness, warmth, and love that will forever remain in the hearts of those she touched.

Those remaining to cherish her memory are her sons, Kevin Willis of Indian Beach, NC and Kelly Willis (Michelle) of Wilmington, NC; sister, Beth Shultis (Ed) of Schenevus, NY; and grandchildren, Shane Willis and Erin Willis.

In addition to her parents, Kay was preceded in death by her brothers, Dick Wells and Ken Wells.

As an expression of sympathy, flowers are welcome, or memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

Family and friends are welcome to submit online condolences at www.mundenfuneralhome.net.
