Kaye Burrows Smith

Kaye Burrows Smith, known for her compassion and dedication, passed away peacefully on April 5, 2025, in Taylorsville, Utah, surrounded by her beloved husband and children. Born in Murray, Utah, on November 22, 1944, Kaye was one of seven sisters. She devoted her life to caring for others, dedicating an impressive 45 years to geriatric nursing, with 30 of those years spent at Highland Care Center. Her commitment to her profession was evident in every aspect of her care, as she embodied kindness and generosity, always prioritizing the well-being of others.

Kaye’s educational journey culminated in her nursing degree, which served as the foundation for her lifelong career in healthcare. Her strength and resilience were sources of inspiration to both her colleagues and the families she served. Even in the toughest times, Kaye faced challenges with an admirable grace and unyielding courage, leaving a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her.

Beyond her professional achievements, Kaye cherished her family and created a world filled with love, laughter, and creativity. She had a passion for collecting antiques and would often refurbish furniture, breathing new life into old pieces. In addition, she enjoyed needlepoint, trying new recipes, and tending to her garden, where her nurturing spirit shone through in the vibrant blooms she cultivated.

Kaye was deeply committed to her faith and served an LDS mission for the Humanitarian Center from 2014 to 2019. Her love for the church and its teachings was evident in her daily life, as she consistently demonstrated her devotion through acts of service and compassion.

Kaye leaves behind her devoted husband of 61 years, Larry Smith, with whom she was sealed in the Jordan River Temple on July 11, 2015, and her cherished children: Brad (Angie) Smith, Brian (Jill) Smith, Brent (Holly) Smith, Rachelle (Chris) Jonely, and six sisters: Colleen, Elaine, Peggy, Sallie, Penny, and Tammy. Kaye will be lovingly remembered by her extensive family, including 12 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, who were a constant source of joy and pride in her life.

Though Kaye is preceded in death by her parents, Edwin John Burrows and Helen Dorothy Burrows, her legacy of love and kindness will resonate eternally through her family and the countless lives she touched throughout her career. Kaye Burrows Smith will be profoundly missed, but she will forever be treasured in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
