Kayla Feldman

Kayla Abelove Feldman, of Kingston, NY, passed away on Sunday January 21, 2024 after 3 year struggle with cancer at the age of 81. She was born in Kingston, NY on March 30, 1942 to the late Robert and Anne Myzal Abelove. She graduated with honors from Kingston High School in 1960, and Skidmore College in 1964 with a bachelor's degree in fine arts. She married Mark R. Feldman on July 26, 1964, and they moved to Lausanne, Switzerland shortly thereafter. It was there that they had their first daughter Samantha (Feldman) Lagocki. Kayla often referred to that time as some of the happiest and transformative years of her life as she and Mark were able to travel extensively throughout Europe where they got to experience numerous cultures, food, music, people etc. They moved back to the states around 1971 and settled in Worcester, MA where they had their second daughter Abigail Feldman. They returned to Kingston, NY in 1976 where they resided for 48 years. Kayla was a very gifted artist and thrived on creating. In her younger years she created beautiful abstract paintings, sculptures, and drawings. When she moved back to Kingston, she transitioned her talents into cooking, gardening, and interior decorating. Her gardens were beautifully curated and maintained. She spent countless hours making sure her home was both functional as well as stylish. Almost anyone who knew her knew that she was an amazing cook, honing in on the freshest ingredients and experimenting with new recipes. She was famous for her brisket, pasta dishes, salad dressing and blueberry wiggle. She was a voracious reader and often had a few books going at a time. She also served as the executive producer and art director for Reservoir Music, the jazz music label founded by her and Mark. The label produced 97 titles and her impact was felt on each one of them. She valued family, friendship, creativity, and intelligence above everything else. Kayla is survived by her daughters Samantha Lagocki of San Mateo, CA and Abigail Feldman of Woodbury, VT; her grandchildren Jacob Lagocki, Sasha Lagocki and Jevne Costagliola; her nieces Timnah Lee and Rachel Lee Garofolo; her brothers-in-law Robert Feldman and R. Scotti Lee; her sister-in-law Janet Feldman; and her sons-in-law Ulysses S. Grant and Andrew Costagliola. She is preceded in death by her husband Mark R. Feldman, MD; her parents Robert and Anne Myzal Abelove; her sister Marsha Abelove Lee; her in-laws Samuel and Lillian Kaplan Feldman and her son-in-law Daniel J. Lagocki. Services will be held on January 28, 2024 at Keyser Funeral and Cremation Service, 326 Albany Avenue, Kingston NY. Visiting hours will be held from 9:30am to 11am. The funeral service will commence at 11am with the burial to follow at Montrepose Cemetery in Kingston, NY. In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family requests that donations be made to Planned Parenthood or the Kingston Library.
