Kazimiera Szafran, 76, a resident of Norride, IL, passed away at her home on January 24, 2026. She was born on November 2, 1949 in Poland to Mieczyslaw and Zofia Mezyk.
Kazimiera is survived by her husband of 52 years, Zbigniew; her sons, Rich (Joanne) of Norridge, and Mark of Norridge; her grandsons, Max and Benji of Norridge; her siblings, Annie (Danny) Dempsey of Round Lake, Helena Thompson of Spring Grove, Krystyna Wyroski of Round Lake Beach, Irene (Scott) Lucado of Fort Worth, TX, Dorothy Mezyk of Addison, and Barbara Mezyk of Round Lake; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her siblings, Bronek, Genowefa, Marian and Julia.
Kazimiera was born to MieczysLaw & Zofia Mezyk. At the age of 13, her father immigrated to the United States. About a year later Kazimiera, along with her mom & 9 siblings immigrated to Illinois. Kazimiera started attending St. Hyacinth Basilica. She was dedicated to attending services and especially enjoyed Religious holiday services like Sunrise Mass for Easter & Midnight Mass for Christmas. She attend Carl Schurz H.S. then transferred schools and earned her certificate as an Administrative Assistant. Kazimiera graduated from Jones Commercial H.S in downtown Chicago. She held a position at Turner Construction for many years. In December 1979, Kazimiera & her husband purchased a home in Norridge. This began her transition from career life to a dedicated homemaker. She raised 2 sons with numerous delicious home cooked meals, support the boys in sports, school activities & the Polish heritage. Kazimiera will be remembered for her Polish culinary skills, as a caretaker, mentor & a translator for family members and friends. Her laugh brought us joy & it was contagious.
A Visitation will be held at Strang Funeral Chapel, 410 E Belvidere Road, Grayslake, IL 60030 on Monday, February 2, 2026 from 5pm until 9pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Gilbert Catholic Church, 301 E. Belvidere Rd. Grayslake, IL 60030 on Tuesday, February 3, 2026 at 10am. Please meet at Strang Funeral Chapel at 9 am.
