Kee Ha Obituary

Kee Han Ha passed away at the age of 95 on December 9, 2025 in the presence of his children. Ken was born in Hilo, Hawaii, on April 13, 1930.

He joined the National Guard in 1947 and then transitioned into the Air Force. While stationed in Springfield, Massachusetts, he met and married Vivienne Seaver. They were married on August 9, 1952, and shared 64 years together until her passing in 2017.

They moved to several bases around the world with their young daughter, Leanne, but returned to Massachusetts where the twins and Andrew were born. Ken and Viv moved their young family across country to Beale Air Force Base, where he retired in 1968.

He became a Wheatland Police Officer in January 1969 and was appointed to the Chief's position while attending the POST Academy in Oroville in November 1970. He was dedicated to the city and community of Wheatland for 17 years. After he left the police department, he became a bus driver for the Wheatland School District.

He is survived by daughters, Leanne Landry of Yuba City, Melissa (David) Wyatt of Yuba City, Melanie (Marvin) Zenzen; son, Andrew (Julie) Ha of Reno, Nevada; and his foster child, Kimbra (George) Lozano of Sacramento; 6 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren.

We would like to extend a special "thank you" to the staff at Sutter Estates Retirement Community in Yuba City who were so good to him for the last 5 years. He cared for all of them as well as the other residents who lived there.

The family will host a Celebration of Life on January 31, 2026, from 1 to 4 at the Moose Lodge in Yuba City, CA.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in his honor - memory to the American Cancer Society.

I have wonderful memories of Kenny and his wonderful family. He and his wife Vivienne always had an open door, a friendly hand, a hilarious joke to tell. They loved people and were steadfastly dedicated to their family and their community. Just the very best folks. I'm so saddened to hear of Kenny's passing, and my children Andrew and Erin and I offer our deepest condolences to Leanne, Andrew, Melanie, Melissa and all the Ha family.

We met Ken when we moved into Sutter Estates in July 2022. He grabbed our attention right away with his life stories of life in Hawaii, his marriage and how he met his wife, his travels while in the military, his children whom he loved dearly, and the talents of his wife, children and himself. Ken had a very full and interesting life. He kept all of us at Sutter Estates laughing, staff and residents alike. Not enough room here to say what a special person he was. Always had a smile, jokes and was a teaser. He is sorely missed here by all. Sleep in peace Ken until Jesus calls you up at His soon return.

I remember interviewing your father for a high school paper; an open-ended assignment expressing any concerns for significant problems our generation would face in the future. Among other things, we were learning that the world was cooling and long term civilization was in trouble because of that climate change. I was going to write about that but it seemed like too much research and effort. Besides, others would probably write about the coming ice age from aerosol cans or whatever we were being taught in class. So I thought instead I would drill down to more local issues and interview the local Wheatland Police Chief. Seemed like a lot less work than all that research. I would just make an appointment, take some notes on whatever your father said, organize them into a paper, turn it in, and be done with it.

Your father was way more engaging than I expected. My question was something like "what is the most significant problem police were facing in Wheatland today that would affect the future of Wheatland?" For the life of me Leanne I do not remember what your father said. He was a story teller and talked easily. I am not sure, but I also think somewhere in the discussion he may have mentioned concerns with adequate funding. I expected a gruff answer regarding dealing with punks and drugs, and remember he sounded more like a mayor than whatever I expected a policeman to sound like. He gave a reasoned and broader view of what affected Wheatland. More importantly, he took time out to talk to me. It is a paper I wish had survived my moves, but alas it did not. I am pretty sure the paper got me an A, and I as I recall was easy to write from my notes. I wish I could share a better idea of what it said. As I recall, there was plenty of material to work from. I do remember thinking at the time I would someday go back and visit with your father again. Never did. After all, it is kind of weird for a high school kid to visit the police chief at his office just to shoot the breeze. And I suppose a police chief had better things to do than humor a high school kid. Still I am glad I did get on the calendar to visit that one time. It showed me that someone could just make an appointment to talk to anyone he wanted. It might work. It did work. The police chief helping me build that confidence served me well later in life when I had the privilege of interviewing or presenting to powerful people all over the world. Kids have to start somewhere, and in my case it started with interviewing your Dad.
