Keith Mitchell Alm

Keith Mitchell Alm, age 80, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away from ongoing health complications on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at St. Mark’s Living in Austin. Keith was born April 30, 1943, to Charles Edward Alm and Neva Olena (Berhow) Lerum in Austin. He attended schools in Austin and Blooming Prairie, graduating in 1961. On September 6, 1961, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin, he embarked on a lifelong journey of love and companionship with Janeth Carlson, the cherished partner of his heart. Keith and Janeth's love was further enriched by the arrival of their two beloved children, son John Alm and daughter Edie (Alm) Lenz. Their family journey began on a farm where the family was extended by two Norwegian brothers (Clarence and Joe Aldahl), who graciously contributed to the family's dynamics. Together, they forged deep bonds rooted in shared experiences, shaping a legacy of resilience and unity that would endure for generations. Keith, a devoted lifelong resident of Austin, was renowned for his fervent passions. Whether meticulously assembling model cars, skillfully piloting R/C planes through the skies, or proudly displaying his beloved 1959 Ford Thunderbird at car shows, his enthusiasm knew no bounds. Keith wholeheartedly embraced the role of Santa's helper, becoming a beacon of joy for countless individuals (especially children) over the years. Whether he was cruising through town on his motorcycle, adorned in a vibrant red suit, snowy beard, and Santa hat, or simply bringing smiles to faces wherever he went, his commitment to spreading cheer was unwavering. Keith's mastery as a woodworker was unparalleled, his workshop serving as both sanctuary and canvas for his boundless creativity. From intricately crafted functional banks to handcrafted jewelry fashioned from coins, and from finely crafted furniture to whimsical children's toys, his skillful hands breathed life into every piece, leaving behind a legacy of awe-inspiring craftsmanship. His greatest happiness stemmed from the warmth of the kitchen, where he delighted in cooking alongside his beloved wife, Jan, creating memories and culinary delights together.

Survivors include his wife, Janeth Alm; daughter, Edie (Daniel) Lenz; grandchildren, Josh Alm (Sara Nelson), Heather (Jeffrey) Dudycha, Samuel Alm, and Madelyn Lenz; great grandchildren, Allie Alm, Dawson Medgaarden, and Johnathan Alm; sisters, Delores (Donald) Wessels and Cindi (Keith) Christianson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Alm and Neva Lerum; son, John Alm in 2020; and his sister, Charlene Monacheck. 

A private graveside interment for family will be held at Red Oak Grove Lutheran Cemetery this summer. In lieu of flowers, memorials are welcomed to support the family during this time of remembrance. Worlein-Hoff Funeral Homes are assisting the family with arrangements.
