Keith Dornbusch, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend,passed away peacefully on December 31, 2024, at the age of 74, inPalm Beach County, Florida as a result of a car accident Christmasevening.
Born on May 18, 1950, in Madison, South Dakota, Keith was the son ofDonald and Mildred Dornbusch. He was preceded in death by hisparents, sister Julie Richardson, and brothers Greg Dornbusch andCurtis Dornbusch. Keith cherished his family deeply, their manytraditions and their love of the land where they grew up. He graduatedfrom Howard High School in 1968, where he developed a passion forfootball that would stay with him throughout his life. Following hisgraduation, he joined the United States Air Force, proudly serving hiscountry during the Vietnam War from 1969 to 1971. His service was atestament to his bravery and dedication, qualities that he carried withhim into civilian life.
On February 14, 1976, Keith married the love of his life, Lori. A romanticat heart, he never forgot their anniversary, thanks to Lori's cleverchoice of date. Their love story blossomed as they honeymooned inRapid City, South Dakota and Wyoming and over the years, theycreated a beautiful family together. This February, they would havecelebrated their 49th wedding anniversary-a milestone that stands asa testament to their enduring love and partnership. Keith and Loriwelcomed two wonderful children into their lives: a son, Jason, and adaughter, Heidi (Eric) Schwab. As a father, Keith was a guiding light,instilling in his children the values of hard work, respect, andcompassion. He took immense pride in his role as a grandfather to Ella,Hailey, and Austin, creating cherished memories that they will holddear forever. In addition to his immediate family, Keith is survived byhis siblings, Armand (Kristi) Dornbusch, South Dakota, Monica (James)Pipes, Louisiana and Mary (Dr. Craig) Hanson, South Dakota, as well as
his sister-in-law, Sue Dornbusch, South Dakota and numerous niecesand nephews. Each family member held a special place in his heartalong with the memories made during family gatherings in SouthDakota, Rhode Island and Louisiana. Throughout his life, Keith wasknown for his kind spirit and generous heart. He was always willing tohelp a friend or neighbor, especially when they were in need of hisplumbing talents. He touched the lives of many, and his legacy willcontinue through the countless individuals he inspired. As a final tributeto his love for animals and the organization's work in providing servicedogs for Veterans, in lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations bemade to Big Dog Ranch Rescue, a cause about which Keith careddeeply. https://bdrr.org/donation-form
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to theprofessionals at Delray Medical Trauma Unit for the exceptional carethey provided to Keith during his final days. Their compassion anddedication made a difficult time a little more bearable, and we areforever grateful.
