KEITH GOERING Obituary

KEITH "MUSTARD" W. GOERING Keith "Mustard" W. Goering, 90, of Syracuse passed away on Sunday, February 23, 2025, surrounded by his family. He was born on April 5, 1934, to William M. & Lydia A. (Eisenhauer) Goering in Nebraska City. After graduating high school, he taught for 2 years as a country school teacher for District 48 before switching to farming. He was involved in a variety of operations including row crops, a cow/calf operation and raising hogs. He retired in 1996 but continued to help on the farm as needed. On June 30, 1960, he was united in marriage to Marie Hespen at Christ Lutheran Church (Delaware) in rural Syracuse. Keith proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1962 until he was honorably discharged. As an active member of the community, he served on the Syracuse Rescue Squad, as an elected officer with Farm Bureau and on the District 41 and Syracuse School Boards. Keith also served multiple terms on the St. John's church board, where he sang in the choir and shared his talent by performing with Marie at many funerals. He also was an active member of the Syracuse American Legion Post #100 and participated in the Color Guard and was president of the Soybean Association. While his kids were in 4-H, Keith and Marie hosted a foreign exchange student from Japan named Junko Iizuka and have maintained a lifelong friendship. Other activities Keith was involved with was Germanfest, where he and Marie were honored as King and Queen as well as serving as Burgermeister. He also made lifelong friends in the Ski and Ping Pong group that he was involved with for 20 years. Keith was an avid fan of Husker Volleyball, but most importantly to him was his family. He loved attending his grandchildren's events. He is survived by his wife Marie Goering; son Myron "Mike" Goering and his children Kelby Goering & Mitchell (Kayla Chapman) Goering; daughter Donna (Brett) Lucas and their children Mallory (Vince) Sickler and their children Gianna & Kennedy, Morgan Munger and her children Holly & Parker, and Liza (Justin) Mahon and their child Quinn; son William "Bill" Goering & Krista and their children Sam Goering & Griffin Goering and Kadyn Sisco & Tristan Sisco; sister Ardith (Bill) Gramlich; also numerous nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Gerald "Jerry" & Pat Goering, parents-in-law William & Sena Hespen, brothers-in-law Sterling & Myrna Hespen, Richard Hespen and Kenneth & Marie Hespen. Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, March 4 at 2:00 p.m. at St. John's United Church of Christ in Syracuse. The service will be livestreamed on the Fusselman Facebook page. Visitation will be held on Monday, March 3 from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. with family greeting friends from 5-7 p.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. John's UCC, Syracuse Rescue Squad or All About Family. Arrangements By: Fusselman Allen Harvey Funeral Home, Syracuse, NE.
