Keith Hawes Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Twiford Funeral Homes - Elizabeth City on Jun. 10, 2025.
Keith Robert "Jack" Hawes, age 94, of Moyock, NC, died at his home on Sunday, June 8, 2025. He was born on September 15, 1930, the 13th and last child of the late Harry Wilson Hawes and Mamie Etta Price Hawes and was the widower of Edith Hawes. Jack lived a long and fulfilling life marked by service, dedication, and love for family and community.
Jack valiantly served his country as a Gunner's Mate in the U.S. Navy, serving during the Korean War, embodying the spirit of sacrifice and loyalty that defined his generation. Following his military service, he continued his commitment to public duty through his work in the United States Civil Service as a heavy mobile equipment operator with over 33 years of government service.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Jack found joy in life's simple pleasures. He was an ardent baseball fan and took great pride in his garden, especially in cultivating his beloved tomatoes. His appreciation for nature and sports reflected his zest for life and an enduring connection to the world around him.
Jack was a proud member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, the American Legion, and the Disabled American Veterans, where he fostered camaraderie and support among fellow veterans and community members.
His memory lives in the hearts of his surviving family: his daughter, Sherry Houston; his three grandchildren, Kimberley Rowton, Christopher Thomas, and Tina Thomas; eight great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandsons, who will carry forward his legacy of love and resilience. His parents, his beloved wife, his grandson, Kevin Thomas, and twelve siblings, preceded him in death.
As per his wishes, Jack's life will be celebrated in private by his family.
Jack will be remembered for his steadfastness, generosity, and the quiet strength with which he approached life's journey. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
