SHELBY: Keith McSwain, of Cleveland County, was born on November 17, 1954, and completed his earthly journey in his hometown on August 10, 2025, at the age of 70.

A dedicated employee of the North Carolina Department of Transportation, Keith spent his career ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of countless individuals, bringing integrity and diligence to his work. Beyond his professional life, he was known for his infectious humor and boundless energy as the family’s beloved clown. His honesty, hard work, and unwavering dedication to his loved ones were hallmarks of his character. Keith’s greatest joy came from his family, whom he cherished deeply, especially his grandchildren, who were the light of his life.

Keith was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbur and Gladys McSwain, his sister Kay McSwain, and his brother Kenneth McSwain. He leaves behind his devoted wife of 57 years, Mary McSwain; two daughters, Jennifer Cline and Melody Clary, along with her husband John Clary; his sister, Kathryn Sarratt; and three adored grandchildren, Sarah Ellis, Leland Cline, and Bryson Clary, all of whom will carry forward his legacy of love and laughter.

Family and friends are invited to honor Keith’s memory at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home in Cleveland County. The family will receive visitors on Thursday, August 14, 2025, starting at 5:00 PM. A memorial service celebrating Keith's life will follow at 6:00 PM in the Clay-Barnette Funeral Home Chapel.

Keith’s life was a testament to the power of joy, honesty, and hard work. He will be remembered for his warm spirit and the laughter he shared with everyone fortunate enough to know him.
