Kelly Mason Obituary

Published by Legacy on Jun. 19, 2025.
Kelly Byron Mason
Kelly was born March 27, 1934, in Abilene, Texas to parents Ted and Edna Mason.
He passed peacefully into eternity on June 10, 2025, at his home in Santa Barbara, California.
Kelly's family moved from Abilene, Texas to central California in 1940. In Visalia, California as a teenager, he met and fell in love with Betty Mae Worsham. They married on June 29, 1952, in Visalia, both of them 18 years old. They began life and career in Visalia where their 3 children were born – Gayla, David, and Randy. Kelly went to work as a teller for Bank of America in 1954. He would remain with Bank of America his entire career, advancing in responsibilities and assignments, and retiring in 1999 after a long-term disability. He last worked as the branch manager of the State-Hope branch in Santa Barbara.
Kelly was a devoted follower of Jesus, and he loved his family deeply.
He is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 73 years, Betty; his children Gayla (Frank), David (Jasmine), and Randy (Debi); his grandchildren Byron, Sara, Derek, Steven, Keith, and Shawn; his great grandchildren Layla, Ethan, Levi, Bennett, Tamara, Alexis, Bella, and Emma Sue; his 3 great-great grandchildren and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sisters Frances, Sally and Sandy, his brothers Jackie, Tommy, and Jimmy and his granddaughter Nicole.
Kelly and Betty became members of the Turnpike Road Church of Christ when they moved to Santa Barbara in 1973. They served the Lord faithfully through the years at the Turnpike church where Kelly served as a deacon and as an elder for many years.
Kelly was a remarkable man of faith and was an inspiration and mentor to many, many people. He always had an encouraging word to lift someone's spirt or a humorous quip to put a smile on their face. All who knew him loved his indomitable spirit, ever-present joy, and warm smile.
A memorial service to honor him and celebrate his life will be held on August 16, 1:00 p.m. at the Turnpike Road Church of Christ, 677 N. Turnpike Road, Santa Barbara.
