Kelly Jo Schalk, a beacon of loving warmth and adventurous spirit, left this world on September 21, 2025, at the age of 52. Born on December 29, 1972, in Bay City, Michigan, Kelly's infectious laughter and boundless energy were a gift to all who knew her. She passed away in the same city that had been her home her entire life, surrounded by the love of her family and the memories they shared.
Kelly dedicated her life to caring for others, a passion that was evident during her tenure as a caregiver at Caro Hospital. Her compassionate nature and sense of humor brought comfort and joy to countless individuals in their times of need, leaving a lasting impact on the community.
Family was the cornerstone of Kelly's world. She was a cherished mother to Kayla Hawn, Libby Hawn, Jacob (Holly) Schalk, Destiny (Parker) Rytlewski, and Faith (Ryu) Insixiengmay. Her love multiplied with the arrival of each grandchild - Cayden, Jared, Kenzie, Amelia, Aaleahya, Royal, Karolynn, Sophie, and Braxton - and extended even to her grand-puppies, Boe Boe, Bentley, and Bandit. She reveled in the roles of aunt and great-aunt to Derek Gohm, Jessica (Mike) Gohm, Jeremy (Heather) Schweinsberg, Dale Hawn Jr, Ellen Lewandowski, David Schalk, Larissa Hart, and their children, Persephoney, Lamont, Bentley, Trenton, Jaxson, and Elliott.
Kelly's sister, Yvonne (Ron) Gohm, and her mother-in-law, Merrie Schalk, along with sisters-in-law Amey Hart and Jennie Schalk, Gina Dailey, and god children CJ and Janessa will hold dear the memories of her loving guidance and unshakeable support. Her legacy of love and laughter will also live on through her lifelong friends Chris Hartman, Joee Henk, Betsy Pool,and Samantha,
Kelly's life was marked by the love she shared with her late husband, Frank, whose memory she honored every day. She was preceded in death by her sister Toni Garrett and her parents, Frank & Karolyn Hawn, who instilled in her the values of family, humor, and generosity that she so effortlessly embodied.
An adventurer at heart, Kelly found joy in the thrill of figure 8 races and cherished the moments spent on family trips, creating unforgettable memories. Her zest for life was contagious, and she never missed an opportunity to make an ordinary day extraordinary.
Funeral service will be on Sunday, September 28, 2025 at 7pm at Rivertown Funeral Chapel. Visitation will be Sunday from 12pm till time of service.
