Albert "Al" Hewitt

Albert D. Hewitt, a cherished husband, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 21, 2025, in his hometown of Bay City, Michigan, at the age of 89. Born on December 2, 1935, to the late, Albert E. and Leona M. (Lauria) Hewitt, Albert's life was one of dedication, service, and love.
Albert's journey began at T.L. Handy High School, where he graduated before bravely serving his country in the United States Army in Germany from 1958 to 1960. His commitment to his community was further demonstrated through his work as a 32nd degree Mason, and belonged to the John J. Carson Lodge in Harrison, MI. Albert's professional life was marked by a 27-year tenure at Bay City Chevy, where he was known for his reliability and strong work ethic.
On May 2, 1974, Albert married the love of his life, Marion (Mitzie) Pettit, in Florida. Their union was a testament to enduring love, spanning over five decades. In his younger years, Albert also contributed to the lives of many young people as a bus driver and custodian for Bangor Township Schools, roles that allowed him to touch the lives of those he served with his kindness and care.
Albert enjoyed playing his Dobro guitar, old country music; including writing and recording four of his own songs. He enjoyed coaching sports, horseback riding, camping, hunting, fishing, and spending time at Rodeo's with his friends.
He leaves behind his beloved wife, Mitzie, after 51 and a half years of marriage. His memory will be cherished by his sister, Leona Wade; his special nephew, Haydon Dixon; his brothers-in-law, Gordon & Gail Pettit, Robert & Cindy Pettit, and Larry (Steve) Pettit; as well as several nieces and nephews who will miss his gentle guidance and warm presence.
Albert was preceded in death by his parents, his stepfather, his brothers Harold, Herman, Raymond, and Edwin, and his infant son, Albert.
A funeral Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at Rivertown Funeral Chapel, Kawkawlin, MI with Pastor Roger Bauer presiding. The family will greet family and friends on Tuesday, November 25, 2025 from 10:00 am until time of Service.
