Kelsie Glover Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel & Crematory - Downtown on Dec. 8, 2025.
With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Kelsie Mae Glover. She peacefully transitioned into eternal rest on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, at Langley Post Acute (formerly Northampton Nursing & Rehabilitation Center). She was born on May 6, 1930, to Walter and Mary Goforth in Northfork, West Virginia.

Kelsie was a proud graduate of Elkhorn Negro High School in Elkhorn, West Virginia, and later attended the College of William and Mary. She worked for over 30 years at Stewart Tax Service and then opened and operated her own business, Glover Tax Services, for 15 years before officially retiring. Kelsie was a devoted Christian who was deeply committed to her walk with the LORD. She was a member of the Shalom Baptist Church. Kelsie loved music and always had a song in her heart; she had an exceptional singing voice, and she sang in the original Good Shepherd Singers Choir and the Shalomites for her church. They traveled around the world singing and spreading God's love.

Kelsie, affectionately known as the Tax Lady, touched many lives throughout her life. She always believed in spreading love, joy, positivity, and passion. Known for saying and living her life "One day at a time," she left a beloved impression on the world and a testament to overcoming odds and survival. With her infectious laugh and humorous outlook on life, she lit up every room with her radiant smile. Spending time with family and friends was everything to Kelsie. She always ensured that the family could stop by and speak to her. She loved cooking a good meal and having everyone sit at the kitchen table and talking with her. Kelsie loved her devoted son, Thurman Lee Glover, who took care of her when her health declined until he transitioned to be with the Lord. She had a very special place in her heart for her nieces and nephews, and she showed that love through her actions.

Kelsie leaves behind a cherished memory of her granddaughter, who is named after her, Kelsie Hill-Huston (Terance); her grandsons, Michael Anderson, Terrence Taylor, George Diamond, and Thurman Lee Diamond; her sister, Margaret Patton; her nephew, James Daryl Patton (Jackie); and her niece, Regina Goforth. Also, she leaves behind her best friend, who always visited her and assisted her in her declining health, Ms. Mittie Jean Ward Dixon. Lastly, she leaves a legacy of love through her six great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren, who will always carry her memory.

In eternal rest, she reunites with her son, Thurman Lee Glover; her sisters, Hazel Scott and Annie Winbush; her brothers, Walter Goforth Jr. and Elmer Ray Goforth; her beloved granddaughter, Eraina Covington Smith; and her nephew, Reginald Goforth. Together, they are embraced in peace and love.

Countless individuals, including many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and close friends, will treasure Kelsie's enduring spirit. Her warmth and kindness touched the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know her, and she will be deeply missed.

A viewing will be held from 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Sunday, December 14, 2025 at Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel. And a heartfelt funeral service will be held on Monday, December 15, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Shalom Baptist Church, located at 1111 24th Street, Newport News, VA 23607. She will be laid to rest at the serene Hampton Memorial Gardens in Hampton, Virginia. A repast will be held at the Hampton Woods Townhomes Clubhouse.
