O B I T U A R Y
Ken Phelps of Campbellsville, Kentucky son of the late Lev Allen Phelps and Annie Geneva Coomer Phelps, was born on Friday, April 30, 1948 in Glasgow and departed this life on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at Saint Joseph Hospital in Lexington. He was 77 years, 5 months, and 29 days of age.
He had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of 3 Trees Church in Campbellsville. With master's degrees in Fine Arts, Secondary Education, and Family & Mental Health Counseling, Ken lived a life rich with creativity, compassion, and purpose.
An artist, entrepreneur, educator, and natural salesman, he wore many hats-each with dedication and heart. Over the years, he was a talented painter, beloved social worker, devoted teacher, passionate coach, dedicated pool business owner, and successful realtor. Ken served as a counselor and mentor to countless young people, leaving a lasting impact on generations of at-risk youth, students, and athletes who were fortunate to know him.
An avid golfer, music lover, and gifted storyteller, Ken was often found with a Diet Dr. Pepper in hand and a tale to share. His kindness, warmth, humor, and steady presence made him not only a trusted friend but also a source of comfort and inspiration. Ken's life will be celebrated with the art, stories, laughter, and love he leaves behind.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years: Vanessa Goff Phelps of Campbellsville, having united in marriage on April 23, 1976.
Other survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law: Chad and Janet Phelps of Greensburg, Josh and Allison Phelps of Harrodsburg; one daughter and son-in-law: Brooke and Jeff Montgomery of Mount Washington; seven grandchildren: Reed Phelps, Preston Phelps, Reagan Phelps, Nate Montgomery, Seth "Cub" Montgomery, Lev Phelps, Luke Montgomery; and a host of other relatives and friends.
