Kenneth Ashby

Kenneth Eldon Ashby, son of Percy Eldon Ashby and Mary Coleen (Davis) Ashby, was born on May 4th, 1960 in Medicine Lodge, Kansas. He departed this life on January, 9th, 2025, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Mary and Percy settled their family in Longdale, Oklahoma when Kenneth was very young. He attended Longdale Elementary and Junior High, up until they consolidated with Canton. He graduated from Canton High School with the class of 1978. Kenneth was an artist from early on. He painted, did stained glass work and macramé throughout high school. Percy owned and operated the Champlin Service Station in Longdale and Kenneth worked there with him, while also operating his own car wash at the station. He had countless stories he told over the years of growing up in the gas station- he absolutely loved it.
Kenneth married his high school sweetheart in 1981, and of that union, his three daughters were born: Rikki Lea, Angela Nastassja and Karri Dawn. Kenneth lived for his girls. He raised them to be tough, independent and self-sufficient women. He was at every single sporting event they participated in and was known to be one of Canton High School's biggest cheerleaders and fans. If the referees weren't doing their job, you could bet that Kenneth would loudly let them know, (and maybe even get kicked out of the gym).
Kenneth's artistic abilities led him to pottery when his girls were very young. He joined his good friend Don Poole in a pottery studio and started making his living that way. He had an art show almost every weekend in a different state, bringing along his three girls as helpers. His work is some of the most beautiful you've ever seen and each piece will be cherished forever. Kenneth also followed in his father's footsteps and worked for Blaine County for numerous years, ultimately retiring from there in May of 2024.
The absolute pride and joy of Kenneth's life for the last 18 years has been his grandkids. He loved them something fierce. He tried his best to be at as many of their activities as he could, oftentimes going to games in multiple cities throughout the week. His daughters always joked about how he completely lost his strict and stern nature he had with them growing up when his grandkids were born. He just LOVED being a grandpa, and man was he a good one!
Kenneth also loved NASCAR. He looked forward to each season starting and betting on every race. He loved him some Denny Hamlin and you could always count on receiving a text from him on Sunday with his picks for that day's race. We affectionately called him the NASCAR King. Anyone who knew Kenneth, knew of his sharp sense of humor. We always asked him how he could come up with a joke or comeback as quick as he did. He loved making people laugh. His girls, and I'm sure most of his friends, will sure miss getting all the silly memes he would send.
Kenneth is survived by his three daughters: Rikki Lea Barreras and husband Jose of Stillwater, Angela Nastassja Jones and husband Steven of Canton and Karri Dawn Ashby of Edmond; one sister: Kathy McClure of Canton; six grandchildren: Jada Kimbro, Imiyah Littlejohn, Jazlyn Menifee, Imileigh Jones, Irilynn Jones and Indy Jones: many other extended family and friends. He was proceeded in death by; grandparents: Harold and Mabel Davis, John and Daisy Ashby; parents: Percy and Mary Ashby. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 18, 2025 at the Longdale Gym in Longdale, Oklahoma.
