Kenneth Barkman Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Burroughs Funeral Home & Cremation Services on Jan. 2, 2026.
Kenneth E. Barkman, 94, passed away on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2025. Ken was born on December 31, 1930, to his parents, Paul Barkman and Frances Eignor Barkman in Pine Hill, NY.

Ken joined the Army In 1950, served for 3 years and was stationed in Germany. He served until July 1953.

In May of 1954, Ken married Belle M. Roberts, and they were married for 71 years. In 1979 they moved to Myrtle Beach, SC. Ken was a General Contractor and built all the homes they lived in through their lives. Ken was a member of the American Legion and the VFW, making friends wherever he went. Ken knew no strangers and spoke to everyone he met and inevitably made them laugh. He enjoyed going to the Inlet and crabbing with whoever came to visit. Gardening was his passion and he had one every year, even when it got harder to do with his age.

In addition to his wife Belle, Ken is survived by his two loving daughters Laurel "Lolly" Douglas (Arthur) and Penny Walkup, who visited him every Sunday to have dinner and play cards; two sisters, Gale Lindroth and Sarah Condon, both still in NY; four grandchildren, DeAnna Douglas-Jackson, Chad Douglas, Vanessa Nutter and Jeremy Crawford; and six great grandchilren, Cameron Jordan, Jayden Jackson, Jemma Jackson, Zoey Nutter, Aaron Nutter and Colton Crawford.

There will be a Celebration of Life in mid-January for everyone to share memories they had with Ken.
