Everette Macklen Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Burroughs Funeral Home & Cremation Services on Feb. 16, 2026.
Everette C. "Tippy" Macklen, 88, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on Saturday February 14, 2026 while at Embrace Hospice House of the Grand Strand in Myrtle Beach. He was born on May 10, 1937 in Conway to the late Everette Melton Macklen & Doris Smith Macklen.

Along with his parents, Tippy is reunited in passing with his beloved wife, Hazel T. Macklen; son, Michael Clifton Macklen; brothers, George Macklen and Melton Macklen; and sisters, Shirley Phillips, Joy Morris, Sybil Hazelton, Alice Ward and Carolyn Sanders.

Tippy was a very hardworking man with a heart of gold and a zest for life. He was the proud owner and operator of Macklen Septic Tank Services of Myrtle Beach for many years where he made life-long friends. When he wasn't helping his community, Tippy loved racing and everything about it! In his younger years, he worked tirelessly building and racing cars at Myrtle Beach Raceway and working on any truck or engine he could get his hands on. His love for the sport translated into his everyday life; he was calm, cool and calculated. Tippy relished time spent tinkering with his many projects. He was an honest man who truly believed his handshake was a contract. Later in life, he could be found in his big, brown recliner chair, watching NASCAR and old western movies. Above all else, Tippy loved his family with his whole heart. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered for his quick wit, outgoing personality and the respect he had for being an amazing husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.

Left to cherish Tippy's memory are his adoring daughters, Debbie Payne and her husband, Alvin & Lisa Cleary and husband, Raymond, all of Myrtle Beach; the apple of his eye, his grandchildren, Erica Knight (Doug), Rebecca Ballard (Eric), Amy Adams (Chase), Leslie Serra, Jen Koperli (Lior) Kristy Payne (Wesley), Michael Macklen & Davey Macklen; great-grandchildren, Hunter Knight, Brayton Knight, Lucas Serra, Brewer Adams, Athena Koperli, Palmer Adams, Oliver Koperli, Haizley Ballard, Eric Ballard, & Ariadne Koperli; great-great-grandson, Everett Knight; sister, Lazelle Singleton; daughter in-law, Sandra "Kay" Macklen; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins; a large, loving, extended family and many supportive friends and neighbors.

A Celebration of Tippy's life will be held at Socastee United Methodist Church, 5575 Dick Pond Rd. Myrtle Beach, SC 29588, on Thursday February 19, 2026 at 2PM. The family will gather to greet friends within the church from 1PM until the time of service. Burial will immediately follow within the church and cemetery and the family will then continue to greet friends in the fellowship hall.

At the request of the family, please consider memorial contributions in lieu of flowers. Donations in Tippy's name may be made to Embrace Hospice House, https://embracehh.com/foundations/.

The family would like to acknowledge, with heartfelt appreciation, the kindness, care and compassion shown to them during this difficult time. Thank you for the prayers, well-wishes, visits and love. May God bless you.
