Oliver Bennett Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Myrtle Beach Funeral Home - Myrtle Beach on Feb. 16, 2026.
Oliver Roy Bennett was born to William S. Bennett and Freda M. Bennett (Nagle) on September 18th, 1940 in Flint, Michigan. He was the last surviving child of William and Freda. He was preceded by two brothers Ted, William (Bud), and a sister Betty. He also had a stillborn sibling.

He is survived by three children, a daughter, Alice (Norman Farmer), and two sons Christopher (Laurie), and Daniel (Kerri). He is also survived by three grandsons Thomas Farmer, Jensen Farmer, and Phillip Bennett. He died of natural causes on February 11th, 2026 surrounded by loved ones at NHC Healthcare in Garden City, South Carolina. He was 85 years old.

He liked to be called by his middle name, Roy. Roy went to Riverside Military Academy, was in the U.S. Navy and went into service during the Vietnam War. Roy worked at E.I. Dupont in the Automotive Refinish division and retired there. From there he enjoyed NASCAR and his favorite driver was Jeff Gordon. He also enjoyed watching the NFL, and the NHL. Roy's favorite food was Coney Dogs, which he would often order at the Grumpy Mustache. Roy enjoyed singing in his church choir. Roy also liked to order books and ornaments from Bronner's around Christmas time and pass them out to whomever he met. Roy had a pet dog named Sandi, who he loved very much and passed away at the age of 17. Roy moved to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina in 2010 to spend time with family. Roy enjoyed traveling to Florida and Michigan to visit friends and family. Roy also liked to walk the mall, and made many friends who worked there. Roy also enjoyed eating at breakfast nooks. Roy enjoyed telling his stories of Vietnam, his father, and his family to friends, family, and to whomever he met. In his final months, he lived with his son Daniel and his family. Roy was a loving father and grandfather whose kindness and happiness spread across the communities he touched. He cared deeply for the happiness of his friends and family.

His service will be held on February 20th, 2026 at 4 P.M. South Strand Global Methodist Church, 3049 Newcastle Loop, Myrtle Beach, SC 29588.
