Kenneth Carkhuff Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Fiore-Buckley Funeral Home - Oakhurst on Nov. 24, 2025.
Kenneth Alfred Carkhuff Jr. ("Poppy Ken"), of Interlaken (formerly of Normandy Beach and Highland Park), passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 23, 2025, at the age of 84, surrounded by his family. He was born on April 3, 1941, in New Brunswick, New Jersey.

Ken graduated from Rutgers University and dedicated 35 years to teaching in the Edison School District. Ken was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force. He coached baseball and served as a mentor to countless young athletes over the years. Ken loved watching the Yankees and the Giants, drinking his WaWa coffee, going out to dinner, and reading the morning paper. A Rutgers football season ticket holder for more than 30 years, he was a passionate and loyal Scarlet Knights fan.

Ken was devoted to his family and was always there for them. He married the love of his life, Nancy Austin, and they remained inseparable until her passing in February 2020. Together they raised three sons: Kenneth Carkhuff III (Karlene), Christopher Carkhuff (Ursula), and Kyle Carkhuff (Tina).

He is survived by his grandchildren Kenneth Carkhuff (Julia), Ashton McKinney (James), Karl Carkhuff, Ariel Coats (Ben), Arden Martin (Andrew), Adrian Carkhuff, Austin Carkhuff, Kyle Carkhuff, and Evan Carkhuff, as well as his seven great-grandchildren.

Ken will be deeply missed by his family.

A private memorial service will be held for the family. For condolences please visit www.fiorefuneralhomes.com.
