Kenneth Choe Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Boston Cremation - Malden Care Center on Jan. 20, 2026.
Kenneth "Kun" Soo Choe, known affectionately as Kenneth S. Choe, passed away on December 21, 2025, in Cambridge, MA, after a valiant battle with metastatic cancer. Born on October 10, 1939, in Korea, Kenneth's journey led him to the United States at just 30 Years Old, where he pursued a life marked by curiosity, intellect, and generosity. He was 86 years old.

Kenneth's academic pursuits included a Polytechnic Institute in NY, earning his Electrician's License in the State of Virginia, earning his Bachelor's Degree from the City College of New York, and culminating in distinguished and extensive Graduate/Master's-level studies in Economics, Physics, and other fields at Harvard University. His passion for learning was not confined to the walls of educational institutions; it extended into every facet of his life. Kenneth had an insatiable appetite for knowledge, particularly in micro- and macroeconomics, the history and politics of countries around the world, and major studies of the Asian Peninsula and its economy, as well as mathematics and physics. His intellectual curiosity, economic knowledge, and brilliant and careful nature fueled a successful career in real estate and other investment ventures, where he applied his keen understanding of market dynamics.

Kenneth was a Beloved Harvard University Employee for more than 25 years, and not only changed the lives of those who knew him with his kindness, knowledge, and ingenuity, but he also brought people together, students and professors alike. He cared very, very deeply about his work, his job, and the people he worked for daily. He had many friends, invitations, and thank-yous over the years at Harvard Student and Faculty.

As a thank-you to Harvard University and to help other students live their highest Scholarly Dreams for decades to come, Kenneth Choe's last wishes were to donate his Estate to Harvard University.

Beyond his professional achievements, Kenneth was a man of diverse interests. He found joy in writing profusely about teh fields he studied and connecting economics, systems, efficiency, and technology! He enjoyed the art of cooking, the subtleties of Great food and wine, and the thrill of collecting and understanding historical technologies such as computers and cameras. Kenneth's fascination with the world's spiritual and religious customs showcased his open-mindedness and his desire to understand the various beliefs that shape our global community.

Kenneth's kindness, intelligence, and generosity were the hallmarks of his character. He was a mentor to many, willingly sharing his wisdom and often providing support to those in need. His generosity extended beyond his immediate circle, as he frequently contributed to causes that fostered education and innovation.

Friends and colleagues remember Kenneth as a quiet, intelligent man, with a great sense of levity and humor about life, inquisitive, and ultimately an ethical and generous man.

To quote the famous words of Albert Einstein, "The value of a man should be seen in what he gives and not in what he can receive." In one word, Kenneth was a man who gave knowledge, aid, and caring.

As his friends and colleagues have requested, I have included further messages about Kenneth's life below.

"Kun was a genuinely kind and gentle man whose presence brought warmth to those around him. I had the honor of being his real estate agent for over ten years, but more importantly, I was grateful to call him a friend.

Kun was fiercely independent and loved staying active. Whenever he came to my office, we would share a small snack and enjoy hot tea together-simple moments that meant so much. Every time he called or stopped by, he would greet me as "Jenny," even though he knew my name well. It was one of the many small things that made him uniquely himself.

I will deeply miss his presence, our conversations, and the quiet joy he brought into my days. Kun will be remembered for his kindness, his independence, and the warmth he shared so freely.

He will touch the lives of all who knew him and of future generations who did not have the honor of knowing him.

While the void left by his departure is profound, the memories and lessons he imparted remain a guiding light for countless individuals. His was a life well lived, full of purpose and marked by an enduring quest for understanding.

As we say goodbye to Kenneth "Kun" Soo Choe, we celebrate a life that exemplified the virtues of kindness, intelligence, and generosity. He will be deeply missed, yet his spirit will continue to resonate in the hearts and minds of those he touched. May his journey onwards be as enriching as the one he shared with us.
