Kenneth Lyle “Ken” Crowell, 81, of Moorhead, MN, passed away on Sunday, March 16, 2025, at Viking Manor, Ulen, MN.
Ken was born on June 11, 1943, to Kenneth and Alma (Marjama) Crowell at home in Ponsford, MN. His family moved to Detroit Lakes, MN, where he grew up and attended and graduated from Detroit Lakes High School in 1961. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy where he served his country from 1962 to 1966. After his discharge from the Navy, he attended Moorhead State College in 1966 and graduated in 1970. He was united in marriage to Lorna Danielson on December 17, 1966, in Detroit Lakes, MN. He then went on to attend the University of Idaho in Moscow, ID, where he worked towards his Masters of Geography.
In 1975, Ken began his work in housing redevelopment for Stutsman County in Jamestown, ND, before moving to Moorhead, MN, in 1978 where he worked as the Director of Clay County Housing and Urban development, retiring after 27 years of work in 2005.
Ken was an avid golfer. He recorded 7 official holes in one and was a member at the Hawley Country Club for many years. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed ice fishing and hunting. In retirement, he drove the courtesy vehicle for Corwin and was part of the grounds crew at Rose Creek, which earned him free admissions to all the Fargo golf courses.
Ken is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Lorna Crowell; daughter, Laura Tweten; grandchildren, Elijah, Elise, and Emelia Tweten, and Ellie and Luke Absey; son-in-law, John Absey; and many other loving relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Andrea Absey; infant daughter, Sarah Crowell; parents, Kenneth and Alma; brothers, Robert and Richard Crowell; and half-sister, Patty McAdams.
Visitation will be from 2:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M., followed by the memorial service at 3:00 P.M., Friday, March 28, 2025, at Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN. A recording of the service will be available shortly here on Ken's webpage.
