Kenneth G. Davis, 94, of
Parkville, Maryland, passed away on January 31, 2026.
He was born at Johns Hopkins Hospital, in
Baltimore, Maryland, on May 21, 1931, to the late J.
Harold Davis and Julia Kopp.
A Baltimore native, Ken, was raised in the city and graduated from Patterson Park High School.
He was immensely proud of growing up in Patterson Park and going to Patterson Park High
School. He attended many reunions, maintaining his friendships as well as making new ones.
While at Patterson he wrestled at 105lbs and was second in the MSA in his Junior year. During
his younger years he had a boxing ring in his basement. He became adept enough at boxing that
he could successfully box his friends with one arm behind his back.
After high school he worked for two years at the Mercantile Trust Company as an income tax
clerk.
On October 19, 1951, Ken enlisted in the United States Army. He proudly served his country and
was stationed in Germany during the Korean War. He was part of the Army Signal Corps,
working in secret intelligence. There he rose through the ranks and by the time of his Honorable
Discharge on September 10, 1954, he was a Sergeant 1st Class.
One of his most cherished memories while serving in Germany was working with two different
orphanages. During the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays he played a major role in
providing food, gifts, clothing, and shoes, to the children.
Within a year of returning from Germany, he married the love of his life, Dolores "DeDe/De"
Connor on September 10, 1955. They stayed in constant contact during his years in the service,
writing letters back and forth for 26 months. They were married for almost 61 years until she
passed away on August 16, 2016,
After marrying "De" he returned to college and went to Bucknell University on the G.I. Bill.
There, while taking 21 credits per semester, he earned his first degree, a B.A. in Economics. He
later got his master's degree in financial management from George Washington University as
well as his C.P.A. license. He also taught accounting in Loyola College's night school for seven
years and got promoted to Adjunct Professor of Accounting. His son Ken, Jr. was born in 1956
while he was still attending Bucknell. His daughter Susan was born two years later in 1958.
Ken had a lifelong love of collecting antiques and later, postcards. No trip home from Ocean
City was complete without a stop at an antique shop. An avid traveler, he enjoyed cruises, trips
to Florida and traveling throughout Europe. Ocean City, Maryland, was one of his favorite
destinations, which included many family vacations and short trips. He also loved camping as
well as staying active with his favorite pastimes being bowling, preferably duck pins (Ken, when he was a kid, actually worked as a pin boy.), playing
golf, tennis, gardening, and playing poker with his friends. He also loved music, especially New
Orleans Jazz, and dancing. Sudoku, working on jigsaw puzzles, and eating out, were some of his
other favorite things to do.
He was an avid Baltimore sports fan and a season ticket holder for the Baltimore Colts. Ken even
caught an extra point at a Colts vs Green Bay Packers game kicked by the Packers Jerry Kramer.
He also attended many Baltimore Orioles games including playoff and World Series
Championships. Not only did he follow Baltimore's professional sports teams, but he also
enjoyed local amateur sports like men's fast pitch softball, the Baltimore, and Baltimore Boars
rugby clubs, as well as high school wrestling, Dulaney and Loch Raven High Schools in
particular.
He loved spending time with, and bragging about, his children, grandchildren, and greatgrandchildren, any chance he could get. He especially loved getting together for family dinners,
birthdays, and holidays. His large toy collection always kept the children intrigued and
entertained. Occasionally Ken could also be seen leading them on a parade around the house. He,
quite simply, could not have been any prouder of them, whether it was on an athletic field or
academically. Ken also shared with them his love for the most important part of any meal,
dessert. He loved ice cream and his giant cookie tin was always full.
He lived his life to the fullest and for those who loved him, or called him a friend, he will be
sorely missed. Ken was a firm believer in the age-old saying, "Age is but a number." His
"Grandad Smile" will be etched forever in our minds.
Ken was the loving husband of the late Dolores C. Davis, cherished father of Kenneth Davis Jr.
and his wife Lisa, and Sue Sledzik and her husband Michael. He was, and "still is" a proud
grandfather of Emma and her husband Adam, Ryan and his fiancée Jess, Julia and her partner
Chris, Cody, Greg and his wife Bianca, Matt, and Cari. He was also the devoted great-grandfather of three beautiful great-grandchildren, Maeve, Remi, and Atlas.
He is survived by many loving family members and dear friends.
Family and friends will honor and celebrate Ken's life at the family-owned Evans Life
Celebration, located at 8800 Harford Road,
Parkville, MD 21234. A receiving of friends will be
held on March 1, 2026, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 3:00 p.m. at
the Evans Life Celebration Home.
