Kenneth Lee DeKam passed away on Tuesday February 20, 2024, at the age of 64 after a battle with cancer. Ken was born in Sioux Center Iowa on November 24,1959 to Al and Arlene DeKam. At the age of 5, Ken moved with his family to Fremont Michigan where he lived until he graduated from high school in 1977.
Ken lived in Grand Rapids, Newaygo, White Cloud, and then 20 years of his working career in Muskegon where he was employed by Structural Concepts. Ken retired in 2021 and spent the last couple of years of his life in Union City, MI. Ken is remembered as having a love of books (both reading and writing), movies and in later years, golf. Ken was not one to be mistaken as the "life of the party", but was known for his quiet, pleasant personality and sly wit.
The family is encouraged that throughout life's many struggles, Ken had an abiding faith and that God never left his side, giving him hope and a future in Jesus.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his siblings Karolyn (Bob) Jongsma, Beth (Randy) McDonald and Dan (Arlene) DeKam, his stepmother Lorraine DeKam and by many nieces and a nephew.
A special thank you to the incredible staff at the Harbor Hospice Poppen residence for their wonderful care and support.
A celebration of Ken's life will take place with family and friends invited to share their remembrances.
