The world lost a man who had the kindest soul and loved laughing hard, even when it left him breathless. And those laughs happened often.
Dr. Kenneth Sayre Goldblatt, 84, passed away October 7, 2025 in Bethesda, Maryland from complications of Alzheimer's Disease. "Kenny," as he was referred to lovingly by his family and friends, was born October 27, 1940 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania as the only child of the late Dr. Charles and Sophie Goldblatt.
Kenny is survived by the most precious gifts in his life, his wife of 59 years, Cherry, and their three beloved children and their spouses: Jeffrey (Lori), Jason (Melissa Kimmel), and Julie Noskow (Alan). He also leaves behind nine grandchildren whom he adored: Carly, James, Styra, Tatum, Sylvie, Jarett, Jessie, Izzy and Sophie.
Kenny was a big believer in performing good deeds to make the world a better place. Selflessness and kindness were bedrock principles in his life, underscored by the number of college graduates, about a dozen or so, for whom he and Cherry provided a free room and board at their home in Potomac, MD, in order to help these recent grads get their careers started without the burden of paying rent.
From 2000-2003, Kenny served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Capital Camps & Retreat Center, a member agency of the Jewish Community Centers Association, and led the initiative to transform the camp into a premier overnight camping experience for Jewish youth. Capital Camps was a beacon of light for Kenny, who loved his many years at camp as a child and would have loved to have been a lifelong camper if he could have figured out a way to make that happen.
Kenny had a magical way of connecting with people, especially his patients, as a highly respected oral surgeon who established successful practices in Silver Spring, Gaithersburg, and Frederick. He graduated from Albright University in Reading, Pennsylvania and went on to dental school at Temple University in Philadelphia, before earning a specialty degree in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery from Temple University Hospital Center where he completed his residency in 1970.
A Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and fellow of the American College of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Dr. Goldblatt was the founder of the Greater Washington Implant Study Club and a former chief of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring.
Playing sports was a passion for Kenny who spent his 20s dribbling a basketball, his 30s and 40s smashing forehands and backhands on the tennis court, and his 50s, 60s, and 70s sinking difficult putts. He was an accomplished athlete, but humble about his athleticism, with his humility and grit serving as guiding currents at every stage of his life.
The family wants to express its gratitude to the many caregivers who watched over Kenny as well as the Memory Care Team at Modena Reserve in Bethesda. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Capital Camps [
capitalcamps.org].
A celebration of Kenny's life and burial service will take place on Sunday, October 12, 2025 at 1 p.m. at Judean Gardens in Olney, Maryland. The Family will receive friends and well-wishers following the service at 7012 Arandale Road, Bethesda, MD 20817.
