Obituary published on Legacy.com by Snyder Funeral Homes, Lexington Avenue Chapel on Oct. 10, 2025.
Kenneth (Ken) E. Haverfield, aged 90, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, at Grant Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio on September 10, 2025. He was born on May 21, 1935 to Roy and Marguerite (Keil) Haverfield in
Mansfield, Ohio.
Ken was a 1953 graduate of Mansfield Senior High, where he met his future wife Violet (Vi) Maglott in band class. On June 28, 1953 Ken and Vi were united in marriage and enjoyed 70 years together. They lived in
Mansfield, Ohio until Ken retired in 1987, after 30 years with General Motors. Ken and Vi then became snowbirds spending their winters at Tahiti Mobile Village in Estero, Florida while continuing to spend their summers at Lake Maria in Mansfield before eventually becoming full time Florida residents. No matter where he lived he was always willing to offer his help whether it was putting up a shed or awning, doing nightly security rounds, being president of the park organization or cleaning the clubhouse.
Ken was a talented musician and would spend countless hours in his "studio" playing music on his keyboard. He was known for playing at various events in Florida as "Kenny at the Keyboard". He also had an artistic streak and could often be found painting beautiful pictures or working on various projects such as building birdhouses for Vi to paint and decorate. Another passion after retirement was watching cooking shows and trying new recipes. He loved to make bread as well as his specialty of french onion soup.
His life was filled with many joys, however, life's journey also held moments of sorrow. Ken was preceded in death by his wife in 2023, their two sons, Steven Haverfield in 1977 and Pastor Jeffrey Haverfield in 2012. Despite these heartaches being with Ken for the rest of his life, he continued to face life's challenges and never lost his faith.
Ken was also preceded in death by his parents, his brother and sister-in-law Tom (Betty) Haverfield, and his sister and brother-in-law Joy (Jack) Southall.
Ken is survived by his daughters Vickie (Ed) Brown of Lexington, Ohio, and Holly Warner of Maumee, Ohio, daughter-in-law, Bobbi Haverfield of Brookfield, Illinois, grandchildren Nick (Tawny) Brown, Greg (Heather) Brown, Eric (Sidney) Brown, Zac Haverfield, Josh (Jordan) Haverfield, Kaitlin Warner, 7 great-grandchildren, sister's-in-law Pat Finley, and Carolyn Maglott and several nieces and nephews.
Ken's daughters would like to express their gratitude to the staff on the 9th floor at Grant Medical Center for their support, compassion and attention to his care, with special thanks to Debra (RN) and Eni with the Palliative Care Team.
Memorial contributions in Ken's honor can be made to the
Alzheimer's Association at www.alz.org/nwohio.
