Obituary of Kenneth Edward Heidelberg
Kenneth Edward Heidelberg passed peacefully on August 27, 2024 while a resident of Walker Care Suites. Born Oct 25, 1928 in Mpls, MN.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Ruth (Hirshfield), grandson Bjorn (Tui) Heidelberg, parents Evelyn (Chauvin) & Kasper Heidelberg, and siblings Richard & Betty.
Survived by his children Heidi Heidelberg, Gretchen Taatjes, Katy (Peter) Bourne, Frank (PJ) Heidelberg, and Suzanne (Tim) Anderson; brother Denny; 13 grandchildren, 20.5 great-grandchildren, 10 nieces and nephews.
At a young age Ken had one of the largest delivery routes for the Star Tribune, in addition to becoming an Eagle Scout. Ken started college at the U of M at 16, graduating with a BS in Chemical Engineering, while participating in Navy ROTC. After graduation Ken set sail on a variety of Navy ships, including submarine, destroyer, aircraft carrier, battleship, and during the Korean Conflict was on a troop transport. After the Navy Ken worked at 3M & was granted a patent before starting at Hirshfield's, where he eventually became president. Ken also initiated both Hirshfield's Paint Mfg Plant and the All Pro national buying cooperative. Ken enjoyed skiing, jogging, golf, racket ball, meditation, & tai chi. Ken was a fun guy, had a great laugh, subtle sense of humor, quiet, intelligent, a steady & reliable leader. He is missed by many Onward and upward!
Celebration of Life will be held at Cremation Society of Minnesota 7110 France Ave S, Edina, MN 55435. 10:00am Visitation, 11:00am Service, 12:00pm Lunch, with internment to follow at Sunset Cemetery 2250 St Anthony Blvd, St Anthony, MN. Donations to Walker Methodist Foundation are appreciated.
