Kenneth Kangieser Obituary

Kenneth Anthony Kangieser Sr.
1935-2017
Kenneth Anthony Kangieser Sr., 81, passed away peacefully in his sleep Tuesday, May 2nd, 2017 at the Forum at Memorial Woods.
Born on June 20, 1935, in Washington, Missouri, the son of Bernard Clarence Kangieser and Mary Ballman Kangieser, he grew up in Nebraska City, Nebraska. Ken attended school at both the University of Nebraska and Washburn University, where he was a member of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity and the Washburn Ichabods football team. He was a member of the Kansas National Guard for 7 years.
Ken lived the remainder of his life as a Houstonian, moving to the city with his family in 1963. He was heavily involved in Houston real estate development, responsible for the construction, leasing, and management of properties as Vice President of Joe A. McDermott Inc. He was a founding member of the Northwest Chamber of Commerce, and a member of the Building Owners & Managers Association and the International Council of Shopping Centers.
An active member of the St. John the Divine Episcopal Church, he facilitated a small bible study group and volunteered in the construction of homes through Habitat for Humanity. He was also a regular volunteer at the Christian Community Service Center.
A proud Houstonian, he was a lifetime member of the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo and cooked in the Barbecue Cookoff for 14 years. Ken was an avid outdoorsman, with a true passion for hunting, fishing, golf, football, and gardening. His devotion to his wife and family, his church, and his career was always visible, and is still felt today.
He leaves behind his wife of 58 years, June (Hoffman) Kangieser; his son Kenneth Anthony Kangieser Jr. and his wife Julie (Sosebee) Kangieser; his son Bradley Swan Kangieser and his wife Melissa (Pell) Kangieser; his son Jeffrey Michael Kangieser and his wife Faith (Fleischmann) Kangieser; his grandchildren Morgan Taylor Kangieser, Drew Anthony Kangieser and wife Kassandra (Knapp) Kangieser, Kendall Anne Kangieser, Zachary Michael Kangieser, and Thomas Conner Kangieser; his brother James Kangieser and wife Jan Kangieser; his sister Virginia (Kangieser) Schmitz; his sisters-in-law Bonnie Kangieser and Barbara (Hoffman) Johnson; and many other family members and close friends.
The Kangieser family sends its deepest gratitude to the caregivers who provided him with such loving care in the last few months of his life; Myrna King, Vanessa Burnett, Sheryl Joseph, and Amelia Cruz. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 11, 2017 at 11:30 in the morning at St. John the Devine Episcopal Church, 2540 River Oaks Blvd. The family asks that any donations be made to the Christian Community Service Center, PO Box 27924, Houston, TX 77227, or the charity of your choice.

My husband was a Nebraska City high school classmate of Ken. They enjoyed playing sports and were proud to be on one of the best football teams in the state. Ken and Jim were the two best dancers in the school and had many good times throughout their friendship. Both will be very much missed in future Class Reunions. My condolences to June and the family. To the Kangieser Clan,
I am so sorry for your loss. He will always be part of some of my best HS memories including hunting at McDermott Farms, water skiing at Lake McQueeney and hearing his voice at football games.

On behalf of the Houston Phi Delta Theta Alumni Club please accept our deepest sympathies. I remember Ken well from great nights around the piano being serenaded by Jay Castille and listening to Howard Young sing. May he rest in peace. Sincerely, Chris Job, President

My heartfelt condolences to June and the family on the loss of Ken.
Ken was a good, solid, loyal, salt of the earth man. We worked together on the advertising needs for the McDermott company. He was always devoted to getting the job done and approached business relationships with gracious personal respect. Please accept my good thoughts and prayers at this time.
