Kenneth Leo Kennell, 92, of Mt. Savage passed away at his home on Saturday, December 2, 2023.
Born on October 20, 1931 to the late Leo Kennell and Clara (Beal). In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife Esther Kennell; sister, Madeline Housel; brother, Earl James "Jim" Kennell.
As a young man, Ken worked at the Mt. Savage brick yard and the clay mines. He was later employed at the Kelly-Springfield Tire Co. which he retired from and went on to drive a school bus for the Allegany County BOE.
Ken loved Bluegrass music and was a very talented musician, being able to play multiple instruments. He was a family man and played an important role in his children's and grandchildren's lives. He loved to tell stories, especially about his youth. In his later years, he enjoyed going to lunch with his old friends from the Kelly and visiting his friends and family. He remained very active and at the age of 91 was still working outside and stacking wood.
Surviving are his son, Roger Lee Kennell and wife Rickie; daughter, Debbie Wotring and husband Blaine; grandchildren, Jennifer Helmstetter and husband Mike, Ryan Kennell and wife Nora; great grandchildren, Sarah Bryan and husband Brandon, Emily Helmstetter, Hannah Kennell, Madison Grimm, and Abby Kennell; two great great grandchildren, Aden and Brynne Bryan.
Family and friends will be received at Durst Funeral Home, 57 Frost Avenue, Frostburg, MD on Friday, December 8, 2023 from 2-4 P.M. and 7-9 P.M.
Funeral service will be held at Durst Funeral Home on Saturday, December 9, 2023 at 11 A.M. with a visitation starting at 10 A.M. Rev. Harry Burchell will officiate the service.
Interment will be in White Oaks Cemetery.
