It is with deep sorrow that our family informs everyone that Kenneth Richard Koons has died after a medical struggle. May he RIP. Ken was 69.
Ken is survived by his mother, Marilyn Rautio, siblings Karen Keithler (husband John), Janice Wojcik, Stephen Koons, and Laura Bradshaw (husband Geoffrey); niece, Erica Bradshaw, and nephews Gregory Wojcik and Nicholas Bradshaw. Ken's father, Richard Koons (wife Mary), niece, Jennifer Mirande, step-father, Alan Rautio, and brother-in-law, Jeffrey Wojcik, predeceased him.
Ken attended Bridgewater-Raritan High School West and Montclair State College as a Performance Arts Major in Trumpet. He played in numerous rock bands, Labrinth, winning a band contest, Waterfront and Benny Troy and Co. He performed with his sister Janice, vocalist, and brother, Steve, drummer. Ken also played many gigs with his dad, Richard, who also played trumpet. In addition to playing trumpet, Ken played gigs on drums with his father and sister, Janice, which was a joy for her. He performed in many church services, especially Easter and Christmas. Chicago and Earth, Wind and Fire were two of his favorite bands. Music was his love.
Ken held a position with the local cable company for numerous years and most recently worked for Auto Zone.
Ken's hobbies were astronomy and fishing at the Jersey Shore. His love of astronomy started at an early age and continued throughout his life. Fishing and swimming in the ocean in New Jersey were always favorites of Ken's. On one occasion, Ken and another person saved the life of a swimmer caught in a rip tide.
We will miss my brother's smile and easy going demeanor.
