Kenneth Millard Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Tyndall Funeral Home - Mount Olive on Mar. 11, 2022.
Kenneth Stuart Millard of Mount Olive, responded to the call of his Lord to come home early Friday morning, March 11, 2022, while at the home of his sister, and surrounded by his family.
A graveside service to celebrate his life will be Monday, March 14, at 11 a.m. at Devotional Gardens at Warsaw. Officiating will be the Rev. Andy Beard, pastor of Faison Baptist Church, and also a friend and neighbor. The family will have visitation at Tyndall Funeral Home in Mount Olive on Sunday, March 13, from 3 until 5 p.m., and also at the cemetery following the service.
A Warsaw native and an Eagle Scout, Mr. Millard graduated from James Kenan High School in 1971, and from the College of Engineering at N. C. State University in 1976. Immediately following college, he accepted the call to serve his country as a member of the Air Force Civil Engineer Support Agency which enabled him to travel the world for 32 years before retiring in 2008. During his career, his primary base location was Tyndall Air Force Base in Panama City, Florida. While there, he wrote the first Automated Airfield Evaluation Program, and during the process, he discovered an error in the pavement design curves, thus saving the Department of Defense millions of dollars, and for his discovery, he was recognized with the Civilian Career Award. Mr. Millard also served as a consultant with NASA for Shuttle Landing Sites and helped evaluate special stands for missile transporters for the Peacekeeper Missile Program. Upon his retirement, he was presented the American Flag for his years of dedicated service.
Mr. Millard fought a long and brave battle with liposarcoma cancer and traveled to Duke Hospital between 2010 to present for numerous surgeries and treatments.
In 2018, he relocated from Florida to Mount Olive, NC to be near his family. He quickly made many dear friends at the Mount Olive Senior Citizens Site where he loved playing "Bean Bag Baseball." He worshiped God at Thunder Swamp Pentecostal Holiness Church in Mount Olive, where he became a member.
Kenneth Millard was the son of the late Willoughby and Elizabeth Millard and was called Stuart as a child by family and friends. He is survived by a sister, Jeannie Sutton and husband, Carroll, of Mount Olive; a brother, Duane Millard and wife, Linda, of Warsaw; two nephews, Michael Sutton and wife, Bridget, of Mount Olive, and Aaron Sutton and wife, Lindsey, of Warrington, Penn.; two nieces, Lynn Carole Sutton Pinnix and husband, Alan, of Raleigh, and Jeannette Sutton Gray and husband, Ted, of Hampstead.
A Tyndall Service.
